I'm regular.  Although my tired old engine seems to happier with 89 than 87.

I am V-power. Hate it when I have to stop at another station.

I go there because it's the only gas station where I don't have to prepay when it's dark. I can pump and then walk in and pay.
What's wrong with prepaying? Isn't it much more convenient to pay with a credit card right at the pump than to have to go in there and wait in line? Especially if you end up in line behind some old fart who takes forever to buy a bunch of lottery tickets, which seems to happen to me almost every time I go in to pay.

Prepay (inside or at the pump) is the only way you're getting gas in BC.

When I tried to pre-pay in the US, I had to enter my 5 digit zip code.  WTF?

After dark, the only to get gas was to prepay (so I was told).  How the heck would you get gas if this was the case? (other than eating at McDs!)

I randomly made up a zipcode when I encountered that in the US.  The pump accepted it.   Did it work for you?

Haha, I have been using that for over a decade. Anywhere I have to use a US zipcode.

I only put premium in cars where the maker specified it, otherwise it is a waste of money.

Exactly!

I don't know where the idea of higher performance and better fuel economy come from if the engine under the hood does not require or will not benefit from higher octane.

Maybe its that Per4Mance sticker on the Sunoco pumps. Let consumers believe what they want, I guess.

It must depend on the pump/card/state, but I've heard of cases where the pump won't dispense unless the zip code you input matches the zip code on the mailing address attached to the credit card. So if you have a Canadian card, you're SOL.

That said, I didn't have any problems paying for gas when I drove through the States last year. I'm reasonably sure I usually paid at the pump, too...

To the original question, 87. I've been tempted to try something a little higher in the Fit, but I'm not sure it's worth the extra cost...

Both cars take 91. Usually from Shell, because there's one near my house on the way home from work.

91 in the TL, 87 in the Odyssey.    I also use 91 in the lawnmower and snowblower as there is no ethanol in Shell's 91.
Internal combustion thrust I trust

Interesting. Does ethanol eat the plastic or something?

Say you pump only $20 in gas, the gas station automatically "holds" (deducts) $100 from your available credit on the credit card until they submit they're receipt (check your online banking). I will pay for EXACTLY what I pumped, not having them assume I may have bought $100 worth "just in case". Also, pumps are notorious for stealing your credit card info, it's happened to me twice, I only use cash at a gas station. When I pump, I never wait, I'm doing this very late at night like 11pm, so nobody is really there anyway.

Both my cars take premium fuel.  The owners manual calls for 91 in the Miata, and the Cobra takes no less than 92.  It gets pricey, especially with the Cobra, but I try not to look at the total.

Nonsense, maybe at some stations in the Lower Mainland; but most of the rest of BC, that is not correct at all. I have never prepaid for gas in BC, ever.

Really? Every station from Calgary to Penticton that I have gone to (and I have been to most with the Land Rover) required pre pay. At first it made me PO'd but then I got used to it.

Prepay is the law in B.C. now.  If a station is not doing it, they're breaking the law.

I guess I should have clarified what I meant - I use a credit card always for gas purchases and the pre-paying does apply if you are a cash buyer. For me, the convenience and ease of credit card buying is far superior to cash buying.
