First Drive: 2011 Lincoln MKX
« on: September 13, 2010, 04:07:32 am »

The 2011 Lincoln MKX is "measurably improved" over its predecessor and its price increase is "almost worth it for the technical improvements alone," says Chris Chase. "All that's missing is a more distinctive look compared to its Ford sibling," he says.

I would have to disagree on that, nothing can be uglier than the Crosstour in its segment.

I do like this Lincoln inside and outside, think Ford did a good job.

This thing looks old already.  It's not bad, I think the seniors will like it.   ;)

I think the new MKX is an absolutely wonderful vehicle and that Ford did an excellent job as they continue to build superior vehicles across their line.

What distinguishes the new MKX from the Edge is that 3.7 liter engine which cannot be had in the Edge unless you opt for the Sport with its stiffer ride and bigger wheels, not to mention the enhanced cabin with all of its sophisticated touches, advanced electronics, superb THX audio and so on.

I would take the MKX over the Edge any day plus the price differential is not that great between a top-of-the-line Edge and the MKX.

Great job, Ford!

I entirely agree priggly. That's why I bought an MKX. To say that Ford didn't differentiate enough between the Edge and the MKX means you didn't spend very much time looking at their respective equipment or the quality of the interior build.

Umm yeah...I don't know how much more you could differentiate the MKX from the Edge. You do notice that huge split waterfall grille, right? Good grief.

There's nothing subtle or restrained about the MKX, that's for sure. That center-stack looks like it came straight from a Vegas casino. Where do you put the coins in? ;D I bet it lights up real purty, too...  ::)

For some people that's a positive.  For others... not so much.

Unless it comes from an Asian manufacturer. Then it's a "game-changer", revolutionary, leaving the domestics in its dust, and all that sort of hyperbole, right?  ???

This is my wife's next vehicle. I have high school buddy working at the plant so it will be a "special" vehicle. Depending on which shift it goes through one or both of us will be there to walk with it.

For the money it is the best possible option for us.

Ford really seems to have issues getting a center stack to look right.
You can't just have your characters announce how they feel.

In pictures the MKX may look a little chunky but in person they look REALLY good and the refresh for 2011 is really astounding. I'm not sure if the build quality is up over the last model but they are very very good looking vehicles. The Ford is good too but the Lincoln I really like the looks of. Some people hate the grille... I think it looks good here.
