went to the dealership after work today to check one out...took a loaded top of the line model for a test drive...the drive is quite good in terms of the "feel" of the vehicle...there is a minor amount of turbo lag when pulling away from a start, but honestly, most people probably wouldn't even really notice it that much, so i wouldn't even really mention it (power really kicks in about 2000 rpm, which isn't far from when you start to pull away)...the CVT "shifted" well (i had it in sport mode where it simulates a conventional automatic transmission feel) and from 0-100 km/hr, the engine pulls strong and this little thing is quite quick...the torque vectoring AWD system seems to do well to elinimate any issues, as it was raining quite heavily here tonight and i took it to a newly paved road on the edge of town to see how it handles at speed and where it can get slick...there are a ton of controls, buttons, dials and knobs, and i can see how it offers a lot of features/adjustments, although, in my limited time in it, i didn't play with much...the premium sound system sounded great, the backup camera is a nice feature...NAV worked well...the seats were very supportive and comfortable...overall, the vehicle has a "high tech" feel, great fit and finish, a fantastic powertrain, great front seats (didn't sit in the back) and is a (somewhat) practical, realistic and attainable fun vehicle.

ok, so now you are probably wondering "what didn't you like?"...well, the "complaints" were minor, but may be big issues to some...for one, the back seat room...the sales rep started off early in the conversation about it, to qualify me right away before we get too deep into talking about it, in case it was an issue...for me, personally, probably not a huge deal, but having extra room can certainly be a bonus...also, because of the steeply sloping rear hatch line, the actual amount of space in the "trunk/hatch" when the rear seats are up is quite small...again, if you don't carry passengers, or lots of stuff often, neither of these is really an issue...a couple of minor things really might bother me though...for one, there is no center armrest...i don't know why, but it feels weird NOT having it...also, the controls for the windows/locks are not illuminated at night...i had to turn the map light on to get out...and that brings up another weird thing...when the doors are locked (i think they auto lock when you drive away), you can't open the door without unlocking it first...standard fair for the rear doors (that often have child safety locks on them), but i shouldn't have to fumble around to open the drivers door if i want to...the last point might be minor, as the car was running (but stopped) when i tried to open the door to quickly speak with the salesrep...perhaps when in park, or when the car is turned off, the auto unlock, i don't know...but still, if i open the door, open it.

all in all though, a great little "car"...i can see this aimed at young people with no kids (singles or couples) who want a neat vehicle, loaded with great features (obviously gets better as you move up the trim lines) that is good on gas and affordable to buy...starting at $20k for the base model and topping out at $30k for fully loaded, i think it is well priced and would be a great car to own (of course, this is all based on my 20 minute test drive  :P ).
When you've lost the argument, admit defeat and hit the smite button.

It would be fine in a pinch...as long as you stay out of boost.

Another person complaining about the extra $5 a week that it cost to run premium.... :rofl2:
it is a valid point...$5/week is an additional $260/year in fuel costs that other vehicles don't require (Buick Regal Turbo doesn't require it, and neither does the Sonata Turbo)...to me, that's almost 4 months worth of insurance payments.

possible (i certainly don't)...but even for those people, the more reason to NOT want to spend that money on gas...it is needed for their Timmies fix. ;D

We checked one out today at the dealership...no test drive though. Thats this weekend. ;D

I think it looks fantastic. Not boring, but unique. There is no vehicle like it in its class - its got a sweet powertrain (torque vectoring AWD, 1.6L turbo) for the price. No car offers the type of AWD system at this price. Perfect for mom to drive around town, with a little extra sportiness for my occasional spin!

You can insure a $30K vehicle tax in for $1100 per year driving to work?  What's the name of your insur. co.?  Seriously.  :)

I do.....State Farm.

5 star discount, multi-car discount, home owner's discount and $1 million liability umbrella policy.  Plus I live in one of the cheaper insurance zones.

i should check one of these out...i kind of like the utility and compactness of it...does it run on regular unleaded without any power loss, or do you need premium?

i will visit the Nissan website to see how much one costs the way i want it.

regular? no idea, have not tried, manual says 91 recommended. Don't know what happens if I don't.

It would be fine in a pinch...as long as you stay out of boost.

Not me! I knew beforehand.  Yep, 4.99 extra a week, deduct the performance penalty if you go for regular and voila...pointless.
BTW my insurance is equally dirt cheap for this thing, under 1k, but I'll double check I know it's $1992 for both the Juke and Altima;)

My Supra was insured for $50K replacement value and cost me $92 month......

The most expensive car EVER on my policy was a 2002 911 Turbo and even that only cost $2600 per year...

IIRC, our agent says our area in among the cheapest in Ontario.

Maybe they just jacked your rates up after you torched claimed that FJ Cruiser... ;D

I guarantee you that the Juke you test drove had regular grade gas.  There is not a Nissan dealer in Canada that fills their vehicles with premium.  Just not done much to many ppl's horror.  :)   I'm sure mid grade would do for the fussy.

Probably...most "premium" fuels for North American cars are 91 octane anyways....

The Personal.

i got a rate quote for a 2010 Jetta TDi Comfortline Sedan and a 2011 Hyundai Sonata in the past year and both cars were within $50/year of each other at about $900/year, full coverage (everything, i mean everything).

neither car is "hot to steal", 23 years driving, 6 star rating (or whatever the top rating is).

i think they auto lock when you drive away...

I know on our Dodges that can be programmed out easily, though our Fords not so much.

Yea..same as on my Lexus.  Some require a visit to the dealer to do this..others no.

I pay around $450 for my Sonata, full coverage (of course), with depreciation waiver and a very low $100 deductible. 12 years of driving, never had a claim other than replacing a windshield. But since I'm in Quebec, about $200 of the yearly car registration goes to SAAQ, effectively increasing my rate to about $650. Still pretty good for a brand new vehicle, I think.

Viewed it in person yesterday.  Love the looks, but again I like the original RAV4 - so what does that say.

Price is good too. :drive2:
