"I would love to see this powertrain / chassis cloaked in an attractive compact 4door sedan body."

I agree, but even better, a compact sports wagon

I can see it now ...Versa SE-R. Bring it on... :D

I would definitely drive that Versa. Can you post the link?

TTAC likes it:  http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/review-2011-nissan-juke/

Controversial styling aside:

"..Nissan’s engineers have built a truly remarkable little car."

"..a chunky, chuckable little car that is way more entertaining than it has any right to be."

"...body roll is practically nonexistent."

"Using a small steering wheel from the elevated “command-style” driver’s seat lends the Juke a distinctive feel in enthusiastic driving that’s entertaining in a wholly unserious way. Imagine a cross between a MINI and a Subaru Forester XT, and you’re getting the picture."

"...the Juke happily pushes through all six (manual) gears with an infectious, mechanical, zinging whine. If downsized, direct-injected, turbocharged engines are the future (and they are), the Juke’s feisty mill is cause for optimism."

"Given the Juke’s sporting style, it’s tough to recommend anything other than the front-drive, manual transmission drivetrain. Neither torque steer nor understeer is a serious issue in the Juke, and caning the fizzy little engine through six manual ratios is pure pleasure."

Sounds like my kind of ride, even if it doesn't precisely look like my kind of ride.

Me Like. I think the specs make this a small car success. This is the first car I like better in red than black

If they like it, then it must be a total joke, just like TTAC itself.

Not really a fan of crossovers to begin with, and the styling here is... interesting, to put it mildly. But the drivetrain sounds fantastic, and if the handling is as good as the reviews say, it might be a tempting package.

That said, I think I'd be waiting for Nissan to drop the same drivetrain into something a bit more normal... :D

I'm with you there.  And I think they'd be crazy not to.

Yes, I am a Subaru owner. Based on that the PJuke must be 9 increments below hideous for me to comment on the styling.

"Though shorter than the Nissan Versa hatchback, it’s taller and wider. "

So where do you lose the length vs the Versa? Cargo area? Less rear leg room?

Nothing, just ask Edsel Ford...

I'm sure the 17 Tribeca owners out there love the looks of it just fine.

The question should be, why did they change the snout on it so soon?

It's not that I don't get why some might really not care for the styling of this car, but I have to admit, a Tribeca owner ragging on the styling did have me thinking "Holy glass houses Batman!".  :o

It ain't purdy but the real crime is not having the 6 speed manual available on the AWD models.
