Yeah June 2009 when they FILED FOR BANKRUPTCY was clearly one of the high water mark months for Buick sales in history.

What a great accomplishment to increase retail sales 21% vs a bankrupt car company..amazing.

The Lacrosse is by far the #1 fleet vehicle for Buick. The Lacrosse accounted for 77% of Buicks sales increase.

I think its pretty clear what happened. GM bottomed out when they wen bankrupt. They sold a ton of Lacrosse to rental fleets this June.

So true.  Let's strike up the band for that one.  ;D I read a good book once - called "How to Lie with Statistics" or something close to that.  Your response above would have made a good example of calling out misleading stats for what they are.

Jaeger

Still being extant a year later was a pretty good accomplishment. Double digit sales growth is fairly amazing.

Hey, let's look at July:

Chrysler sales up 39% vs last July. Must be due to all those popular and innovative new models they have out. Maybe its the increased quality and better design..what's that? No new models..same crap quality and design.

Chryco Minvan sales are double what they were last July. That's amazing accomplishment. I'm sure it has nothing to do with production being shut down due to bankruptcy and their being no vans to sell.

Its like bragging abpout someonerunning the mile 28% faster than this time last year but failing to mention they had a broken leg and were in a cast last year.

Toyota is down 3.66% for the period, while Honda is down 6.23%. Toyota's problems are obvious, but what of Honda? Chevrolet is up 12% and is under the same cloud as Buick.
On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

Don't get caught up too much in the "sales" trap.  You'll remember that GM was always at or near #1 for sales, yet they lost money every single year, year after year.

Despite Toyota sales being slightly down, they posted a $2.2 Billion profit the last quarter.

"Last [few] number of years" is kind of important there.
Compared to healthcare underfunding, the warranty stuff was fairly minor.

I am referring to the last few years.  And it's NOT minor.  GM was paying almost $1 BILLION per quarter in warranty costs.  Their warranty reserve always hovered around $8-$10 Billion.  That's alot of cheddar...and hardly minor.

There were actually a couple of year where this warranty work could actually be the difference between GM making or losing money.

Yup. They've cleared a lot of debt and legacy costs, but they have to make money on what they sell.
No arguments on how poor their business model was, nor how awful their cars had gotten.

But...

...does it have a timing belt or chain?

Please discuss the merits of each  ;D

 :run:

Boss has a 2004 Chevrolet Aveo that had the timing belt go at 79,000km then again at 130,000km.  Being an interference engine, the internals had to be re-done.  Not sure if the first time it was covered under warranty, but the second time cost him nearly $3,000.

My car has a timing chain and have never had to worry about it...yet.  Knock on wood :D

Anyways, carry on  :run:

Ya...don'cha know that history only applies to domestic brands?  It doesn't apply to the import brands.

Oh...which import brands have declared bankruptcy lately, and have enormous legacy costs?

I'm interested in chatting about them.

Funny how quickly you brand those possessed of a different view than yours as "trolls".

Ooooh, now the shoe is on the other foot. Hilarious. A little sensitive, are we?

Interested enough to have taken a test drive.  No doubt if I had been overwhelmingly impressed with every aspect of it, you and other GM slappies would have no objection to my saying so as often as I chose - right?  I thought so.

Oh, no, there is PLENTY of doubt. You might as well compare the likelihood of that to you passing through the eye of a needle. They are equally impossible occurrences. You would never have allowed yourself to be impressed by this car, as your earlier postings on it prove. You seem to think that if you say something loud enough and often enough, it will be true.

BTW, congrats on passing the 20 post mark in this thread.

Well then don't say it had little to do with any of the cars they were selling, because it did.  GM even acknowledged this.

Exactly correct, and exactly my earlier point.  One can obfuscate repair costs for crappy cars with terms like "legacy costs" - as if it were a problem they inherited, rather than created - but it is what it is.

Well goodness knows we don't wish to discuss import brands that have worked hand-in-hand with their governments to benefit their countries....and let's not talk about the the currency manipulation either.

Round and round we go...where we stop...no one knows...

I'm gone. The new e-mail advice WAV file is constantly going off because of this thread, and has me now disliking the song exerpt it plays. I get here, and there's "nothing".

Hopefully a different thread will start WHEN the turbo version is nearly here.

Yea...I'm excited to hear about that car, too!!

Have they decided if they will offer it with AWD??

Turbo+6 speed+AWD would be a very, very cool car.
