Uh oh, more Hyundai SPAM from fanboy.

How is it spam when I'm providing an informed opinion piece that contradicts what he said? Do you know what spam is?

Calling the Cruze a guzzler is just, well, ignorant.

Ok, sure, using the word guzzler was an exageration... but in relation to the Elantra, it kind of is...

Fuel economy with automatic transmission:
Elantra 1.8L:      6.9  4.9
Cruze Eco 1.4L:  7.8  5.1
Corolla 1.8L:       7.8  5.7
Civic 1.8L:         8.2  5.7
Cruze 1.4L:        8.5  5.5
Cruze 1.8L:        9.2  5.6

Quite a difference between the Elantra and Cruze, even the Cruze Eco.
Do you actually rely on government fuel erffciancy numbers? Give me sime real world numbers and you may ahave an argument.  Remind me to do so when they have all been tested by CR.

Sure, here are the numbers taken from many Day-to-Day reviews from wing.

Corolla S - 7.0L/100km
Cruze Turbo - 8.4L/100km
Forte 2.0L - 9.3L/100km
Cobalt XFE - 7.8L/100km
Civic Si - 8.6L/100km
Corolla XRS - 8.0L/100km

Are you going to contest these numbers too?

Interesting to see the Forte drink the most gas. It's not a very powerful engine...

Uh? It's one of the most powerful engine in the segment... 155hp IIRC.

Civic Si 2.0L 200hp - 8.6L/100km

I said one of the most powerful engines, didn't I? Besides, the 2.0L Forte isn't exactly competing against the Si and XRS either... it's competing against the Cruze (both engines), Civic 1.9L, Corolla 1.8L, Mazda3 2.0L, etc..

And for a 2.0L, 155hp (IIRC) isn't bad, I think.

I'm sorry to point out that a Honda 2.0L 200hp engine drinks less gas than a 2.0L 155hp engine from Kia.

So it's not a very economical engine... good enough for you? And don't tell me the Corolla, Civic and Forte are not in the same segment.

Two totally different engines. The Si 2.0L prefers premium fuel and the power is developed up high without as much torque (130-140ft/lb if I remember right). The 2.4L 158hp engine from Toyota has 162ft of torque developed early in the power band and only needs regular gas. Also the 2.4L is .4L larger... so yeah it will suck down the gas a bit more.  My average, on my XRS, is currently 8.6L/100km.

Not sure how this conversion deviated to the Forte, but whatever.

The Forte 2.0L is NOT a competitor to the Civic Si and Corolla XRS... that's the job of the Forte SX with the 2.4L.

And I fail to see how the Civic Si's 2.0L fuel consumption being better than the Forte's 2.0L has anything to do with the Cruze... care to explain that to me?

Hysterical! This never ending cel phone conversation has gone on so long, the talker has become confused and forgetful! It was he who brought the Forte into a Cruze thread by posting fuel economy of 6 cars, with the Forte looking so abysmal in its fuel numbers that it stood out!   I mean 9.something and that was the smaller base engine, how bad was the larger one in real life?

I was pointing out that the Forte achieved the worst fuel economy. You called :censor:. I showed you why it's not :censor:.

I'm not trying to change your mind, just pointing out the FACTS.

I never said the Cruze was the worst of the bunch for fuel economy, but it's certainly quite far behind the Civic and Corolla. And when GM boosts the fuel economy of the Cruze, it's quite surprising to see how average it is compared to its competition.

These numbers aren't what I'd call "quite far" behind the Civic and Corolla.  Even setting aside the Cruze Eco, the Cruze turbo is on par with the agile-but-less-substantial-feeling Civic.

Fuel economy with automatic transmission:

Cruze Eco 1.4L:  7.8  5.1
Corolla 1.8L:       7.8  5.7
Civic 1.8L:         8.2  5.7
Cruze 1.4L:        8.5  5.5
Cruze 1.8L:        9.2  5.6

Any reason why you excluded the Elantra from your numbers?

Because you said the Cruze is "certainly quite far behind the Civic and Corolla," so comparing those three cars seemed the best way to refute what you said.

Also, what rrocket said.

I'd be a troll if the primary purpose of my post was to get a rise out of you.  As it was, the primary purpose of my post was to supply Cruze v. Civic v. Corolla numbers because your own post compared those three cars.

Getting you to hyperventilate was just a pleasant side-effect.

Seriously.  I first realized the error of my ways when Shnak posted 14 posts about why he preferred a Sonata in my Civic Si show-and-shine thread.  I've been doubting myself ever since, and now I'll never forgive myself for not buying a Forte.
