Hyundai must be just scaring Honda and Toyota to death.  It's like Honda and Toyota seeing themselves 20 years ago.

I've been really impressed with their recent offerings, but I'm not sure what it is I'm supposed to be excited about here.  Does the world need another crossover?  Does Hyundai?

It's the Veloster, or whatever the production model will be called, a.k.a the CR-Z terminator  :) Fine powertrains on paper, if they also make it light, we've got a winner.

I dunno - they don't seem to know what it is.  And it looks pretty tall and blocky to me, though camera perspective has a lot to do with perceived proportion.  And then there's all that cladding.  Is Hyundai "on fire"? Yep.  Is this cladded crate further evidence of that?  Not from what I can see.  Which aint much.

It's definitely the upcoming Veloster.  It's the same height has the BMW 3-series beside it.  They've been testing those pre-production models for a few months now.  If you believe the rumors, it's meant to replace the now retired Tiburon ... it may even take its name.  With the success of the of the Genesis Coupe, I think it's a smart move for Hyundai to introduce a sporty hatch instead of a 2-door mini coupe.

With the Hyundai in the foreground and the BMW in the background there is simply no way to assert that the two vehicles are the same height based on the photo alone.  If they're side-by-side and you're looking straigh at them, different story.

And all this presupposes that the clad vehicle is in fact a Hyundai - which is far from clear.  Yes, the wheel look Hyundai-ish - which would also make perfect disguise for a completely non-Hyundai vehicle.  Didn't VW recently put a Toyota logo on a Jetta test mule?

And even if it is a Hyundai, and even if it is the new "Veloster", you still really can't see anything of the vehicle itself - hence, no reason that I can see for applause, cartwheels or high-fives.

This looks pretty much identical to the vehicle that we've seen on Autoblog and Hyundai blogs for a while now. It's a, at least in my mind, 99% chance of being the new Veloster prototype. Not sure what the final name will be. Apparently it will have somewhat unconventional styling and it's supposed to have a fairly impressive engine for it's weight. It's supposed to be a entry level sport hatchback built on the new (ish?) Elantra platform.
