A new Porsche has been a poor deal for a long time now.  Way back when a new 911 was the same dough as a Corvette, it wasn't too bad.  But, the 80's Yuppies turning the brand into a serious status symbol has killed any value in buying new.

Used Porsches are the only way to go for an enthusiast driver looking to avoid the serious initial depreciation that comes with any Porsche.

I know a fellow that picked up a hardly used (~8000km) Viper (I think an 06 or 07) for under $50K.  Not my cuppa, but that is a LOT of go for the dough.  Of course, the dealer was asking some outrageous number for it, but he went in armed with cash and a top-out number and no budging.

Personally, I think the GT500 is a lot of bang for the buck, but I think the plain old "only" 400hp GT is better.  $20K is a lot of money.

A few people have mentioned the Cayman in this thread.  The base Cayman (non S) starts at $65k and doesn't have close to the performance of the GT 500.  Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with the Cayman, it's just not in the same performance class as the GT 500.  I honestly can't think of another car for $59k that has the performance of the GT 500, which is why I think it's a performance bargain in comparison of what else is out there.  But $59k for a Mustang won't be everyone's cup of tea that's for sure.  Anyways, just my .02 cents. 

I was just at the local Chevy dealer on the weekend and a new 2010 Corvette Gran Sport was on sale for $61K.  GM has a 12K rebate on Vettes right now to bring prices in line with the U.S because so many people are importing them.

Don't know why anyone but collectors would spend this kind of dough for a Mustang for such little performance gain.  But as history has shown, they usually sell every one of them.

Wow! What a monster but a couple of things caught my attention.

0-100 in 5 secs?! Somethings wrong there. With this HP and the cars weight it should do better than this, no? There are many ricers that can do this or almost this with a 4 banger.

And the price is too high. As someone mentioned you can get a Vette for this kind of money and it will kill it in handling.

At the test track, we recorded 0 to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds, 0 to 100 in 9.1 seconds, and the standing quarter-mile in 12.4 seconds at 117 mph. Our last 2010 test car ran those sprints in 4.5, 9.6, and 12.7 seconds, respectively. The 70-to-0 braking took 151 feet, an improvement from 165. Grip came in at an impressive 1.00 g, with far less understeer than the last car’s 0.91-g effort.
