I will be checking regularly now for pics all cleaned up with the OZs on. Welcome to the Grey 4 DR GTI club !

Nice to hear the ride is very quiet. Makes me jelous given the orad noise on my MKV GTI. Just curious if they hcnaged the gearing. What does it rev on the highway?

Congrats on the arrival of the ride. I find myself drawn back to my recent GTI test drive.....that car just has that something....almost intangible, but out of the three I drove it's the one I think about most. Have fun.

Very nice.  And great call on 17" OZ's!  Those should look sweet on the GTI.

Congrats.

(Your pics also make me jealous of the possible 'test drive' routes in Alberta.  Southern Ontario blows.)

Congrats on the GTI delivery, know it's been a long wait! Have been particularly enamoured with that colour in person.

Spheric, traded the Passat for a new Golf too? (EDIT: just noticed your other thread)

LOVE these cars. Wishing I were driving a Golf again... perhaps in the future.

Yep, I'm using the stock 17" Denvers for winter. For tires, I was going to go with performance winters (Dunlop 3D), but instead decided to try the new Continental ExtremeWinterContacts. I was hoping they would be a better compromise between bare/snowy performance, but so far they're squirmier on pavement than I was hoping for.

Summer wheels are 17" O.Z. Alleggeritas with Bridgestone RE760 UHP summers. I'm definitely looking forward to getting those on.

The car is pretty much just a base 5-door GTI with the 6-speed manual and cloth interior. The only option I got was the Tech package, which is the nav system and Dynaudio stereo.

And thanks to everyone for the kind words!

I ran Hankook W409 Winter i*Pike tires (17's) on mine and thought they were good. Obviously turn in is a little slower than summers but considering most of my driving is hwy I had no issues. I had the Dunlop 3D on my Mazda6 before this and think they are a better dry tire, but that car drove much different so who knows.

Can't wait to see the summer wheels/tires on your clean car.

I like that you got a stripper GTI, good choice and good value. What do you think of Dynaudio system? Also, does it include Sat Radio?

Nice to hear the ride is very quiet. Makes me jelous given the orad noise on my MKV GTI. Just curious if they hcnaged the gearing. What does it rev on the highway?

There is a fair bit of tire noise, but I am running winters. Otherwise, the cabin is serenely quiet with hardly any wind noise: apparently VW uses thicker window glass on the MKVI.

Off the top of my head, I'd say engine revs at 120 km/h are around 2,800 - a far cry from the 4,000 rpms my Civic used to spin.

I like that you got a stripper GTI, good choice and good value. What do you think of Dynaudio system? Also, does it include Sat Radio?

I love the Dynaudio! I was sitting at a red light today, listening to Fleet Foxes' White Winter Hymnal, and was simply blown away. I wanted to put on the four-ways, close my eyes, and just sit there until the song was over.  :)

Anyone looking for car-shaking bass will probably be disappointed, but all I want is clear, uncoloured sound with a natural soundstage - for me, the Dynaudio delivers in spades.

And yes, it includes sat radio (although I think the base stereo does too). You get it free for three months, then have to pay.

I may very well be walking to work tomorrow, but I just couldn't stand it any longer - the winter tires had to come off!

The weather wasn't too bad this afternoon, so I managed to get the summer rubber on the car and take it out for the first spirited drive since I picked it up almost a week ago. All I can say is - wow!

While the Civic was plenty fast on a twisty road, it always made you work to maintain your momentum. In contrast, the GTI is just effortlessly fast. It almost doesn't matter what gear you're in - there's plenty of torque on tap everywhere. And I was pleasantly surprised by the XDS system: without being overly intrusive, it really does pull the nose of the car into the turn.

All the controls are quite light - maybe too light - but that seems in keeping with the easy character of the car. The brake pedal is soft, and has quite a bit of travel, but once you get used to it, the brakes themselves have plenty of bite. And the pedals are perfectly spaced for heel and toeing.

Until I can keep the car clean for some proper pictures, here's a few more snaps:

And, yes, I am pretty lucky to have some decent roads around here. This road on my nav screen isn't quite the Passo del Stelvio, but it is only twenty minutes from my front door:

Interesting how many Golf and GTI owners there are on here now.

Congrats again, Looks extremely sharp HeliDriver. Pretty nice scenery too.  :fall:

The Oz wheels look great and have a very stout appearance. I think they'll be able to take quite a bit of  punishment.

I test drove an A4 with the 2.0T engine a couple of years ago and I was amazed the torque and flexibility of that engine. I can imagine it must be even more fun in the much lighter GTI.

As usual, the interior on the GTI is very slick. Love the plaid seats.
