I'm a bit worried about the loss of 2" in overall height... that has to eat up the headroom quite a bit.  :-\

I like that these reviews are focusing on and applauding weight reduction. Just a few years ago, and for years back from that, reviewers just had to shine a spotlight on increases in rear seat legroom. And I think that was partly responsible for the bloat in the many of the cars we have today.

I agree.  I wish more manufacturers would make weight reduction a priority.  So often it is the obvious culprit behind poor performance and mediocre fuel economy.

^^^ The asterisk campaign is marketing brilliance.  They are getting TONS of free mileage out of it, as it is presented in some detail in just about every review.

Holy cow, what a puff piece. It reads like it was written by Hyundai USA PR. MT should be ashamed of themselves.

Yeah - imagine that - they liked it.  ::)  Of course, any positive review of the Cruze is a seminal piece of automotive journalism.

Dude, could you be more predictable?

I've never read a "first drive" that isn't. I think they are paid for to excite the minds of the "early adapters". I have to admit they have  caught me out more than once over the years.

The worst ever was buying a Plymouth Horizon when it first came out. Someone i knew called it a "lunch pail without a handle". And it was! I dumped it 6 months later.

Exactly, any real gearhead gets plopped into a shiny brand new model for a few hours while being shown all of its best features, you can't help to come away excited.

Now, drive that same car a few weeks later for seveal days away from the PR reps and its true colours will show through.....good and bad

I too believe that all "first drives", by all magazines and for all new models are mostly a reiteration of the press release.
For example, note in all these Elantra reviews how they picked up on the Hyundai's PR "asterisk" line.
I'm sure the car is fine, but wait for an actual test drive review, comparison feature or long-term blog.

Assuming GL Auto will be the volume seller, the price looks very good.
However, the GLS Auto would be my pick and it's still great (best IMO) value for $21K.

That's weird, I thought there were suppposed to be L, GL, and GLS in manual or auto, and Limited and Limited NAV in auto only.

Models and features from Hyundai Canada web site:

http://hyundaicanada.com/images/misc/2011%20Elantra%20Packaging%20-%20EN.pdf

Based on that table, I'd be perfectly happy with the GL.
