Wow.
What a horrible looking, overstyled car.
Out of curiosity does the Chevy Cruze styling appeal more to you?

I liked the early photos, but the ones I just saw on the Chevy website did nothing for me.

... Ford isn't giving away their fancy transmission for nothing... they're making the customers pay for it!

Come on Shnak! You cannot be serious... Which mainstream manufacturer gives AWAY ANY sort of automatic tranny? Can you name one?

Ford charges $1250 for the new 6AT Dual-Clutch tranny in Fiesta, while Hyundai charges $1200 for the ancient 4AT in Elantra/Elantra Touring and $1000 for the equally ancient 4AT in the Accent.  Where exactly is the value for the money?

Do you really think Hyundai will charge less than $1250 for the new 6AT in the Elantra? I don't think so. There is exactlly $1600 :o price difference between the 2011 Soanta GL Manual and Auto and the only differences I see between the two is the transmission and front heated seats.

My point is that Ford will be selling their sub-compact car for more money than Hyundai's compact car. That's how Ford can afford to put a francy transmission in their sub-compact. If they were pricing the Fiesta at $10k to go against the Accent, do you think you'd have a dual clutch transmission in there? Of course not; you'd have either a crappy CVT or a 4-speed automatic.

The Fiesta is more than a fancy transmission worth of difference.  Arguably the Fiesta is a overall good performer with a solid chassis, reportedly good steering, and some fancy electronic gizmos like Sync. The Accent is more barebones than a Fiesta so the base of an Accent is obviously at a lower level and the Fiesta exists at a slightly higher level.  Probably the Focus will do the same and start a bit higher but likely with a comparable level of extra equipment to justify it.

I don't get the bloody obsession with how many gears a cars got in a slush box. Do really need a six speed automatic in small car, whats the point. Fuel economy I hear you say. Thats only going to add a few more miles to gallon.  It just a fad really so you can boast at the local Timmie's to anyone that will listen that your car got 6 gears. Really, if you that obsessed with gears, buy a manual. Way more fun. Otherwise I can't see the point in a slushbox have 6-8 gears.

Actually the logic works exactly opposite to that. The smaller the engine and especially the available torque, the more speeds you need in whatever kind of gearbox. Where a 6 speed of any variety (manual or auto) is of little value is with, for example V8 Mustangs or Camaros with big torque and wide power bands. Then its shifting out of a desireable power/torque situation right into another fairly similiar one.

Do you think the base Elantra will sell for less than $12600, the price of the Fiesta S Sedan? Plus, keep in mind that the base Fiesta S is not barebone either; it is better equipped and it is of a higher interior grade than what Hyundai sells you for $12000 in the current Elantra base. The gap is even bigger if you look at the Accent.
By the same token, do you think Hyundai will price the new Accent at $10000 while offering the same level of equippment and quality as Fiesta does? I highly doubt it.

I would further speculate that the new Elantra will be priced slightly higher than the current Forte, which will put it above $15800 (no A/C at this price point just like in the Fiesta S sedan). Than you'll have over $3000 price gap which is a lot for the sub-compact/compact class.

My other point is that Ford charges $1250 for the 6AT dual-clutch while Hyundai charges $1600 for a traditional 6AT or $1200 for a 4AT.
Ford charges the tranny as a stand alone option on the Fiesta and it has nothing to do with the rest of the car. Simple as that.

I believe the days of cheap Hyundais are over now that they've raised the bar. The value is perhaps still there but the gap is much smaller if at all.

Really sounds like more things to go wrong to me once you start hitting that 150K mark.

I don't know... remember those Chrysler 4 speed autos? It's a miracle my parents cars didn't have the transmission fall out and mash itself to pieces. The 5 speed auto in my Corolla is much more likely to last. Depends on how they build them.

Why not? Why should you have to automatically pay more for the automatic (no pun intended :D).

These days, most people buy autos. Manuals are becoming more of a niche that less and less people buy. This isn't 1960 anymore where the manual is the "standard" transmission and an auto is a high priced luxury feature.

If most people buy a certain trim, the are building more of that trim, and stocking more of that trim at dealers, and therefore it should become cheaper. If the manual is becoming more of the specialty item being built in smaller numbers and being more of a special order option, why shouldn't its price reflect that.

Volume only goes so far.  An automatic transmission is by far a more complex piece of machinery.  The fact they can build 6 speeds now for what they used to build 4 speeds for reflects the volume.

Nice clean and simple.

I dont find it clean and simple at all.  To me, VW or Audi are clean and simple and attractive.  To me its overdone.
Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction, and skillful execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives.

Looks great!

I think there can be a "flowing" simple and a "straight line" simple. VW and Audi do the straight line thing with small curves while this is all curves. I like it.

Not too bad. Hopefully they bumped up the interior quality a bit from the Genesis Coupe. That is WAY too obviously a lot of silver painted plastic.
