I don't see anything unusual about this. Early adapters usually have to go through inconveniences to be 'the first on the block' to own one, especially if its popular and/or production is having a tough time keeping up (well documented in the news). And we don't know how their assembly is set up, they may have produced Canadian cars for dealer orders and now they are going full steam producing cars for Americans. 17 days doesn't sound like much for a new launched car.
Of course there is the option not to buy at all, obviously. Its always there.
