I sure would hate to have bought a 2010.  These new engines truly transform the Mustang into a very serious competitor and maybe even class leader now.

like the looks, less chunky looking than the Camaro and Challanger... still a very blah dash and interior

The US GT lists for $29,645 while the Canadian GT lists for $38,499.

 ???

Ford - give your head a shake.

Apa.ca shows that Ford covers warranty for US purchased cars.

Even with a 5% exchange rate, it shouldn't be too difficult to save $7,000 on a US purchase.

Where these tests continue to fall down is comparing them to other cars...that's what we all do...and it's fun!

Sound like AutoBlog freak'n loves it!!!

"Speaking of Audi, the 5.0 makes the 354-hp S5 look like an overpriced slowpoke. We've driven both cars in anger and the 2011 Mustang GT is not only faster, but is actually rear-wheel drive, not a FWD platform fitted with Quattro all-wheel drive. Want us to go even further? We'd prefer the Mustang GT to a BMW 650i. Sure, the BMW has dash leather and... iDrive. But (again), the GT makes more power (the 650i manages 360 hp), handles better and is quieter unless you're really belting the throttle. Also, Sync's a whole lot better than iDrive, even the much improved new iDrive. Not only that, but the GT's new 5.0-liter V8 engine is in another league than (previous) competitors like the Nissan 370Z and Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8. Getting the point? In 2011, the Mustang GT is the car to beat. Welcome back, 5.0."

Welcome back 5.0 is right!!  The GT must be a true blast to drive!  I would take this in a heartbeat over the Camaro and the Challenger.  The interior looks to be fairly decent, certainly worlds better than that of the Camaro.  Huge props to Ford for increasing power that significantly and decreasing fuel consumption at the same time.  Well done.

Thanks for posting that link TopGun, Autoblog sure seems to love it.

I want one, but I'll have win the lottery first.  I've never owned a 'crazy fast' car before and I'm due for my mid-life crisis.  ;D

I love the Mustang, but this has to be the first time I've ever heard anyone describe the Mustang as a "win the lottery" car...

The new '11 5 litre would be my clear choice over the Camaro, and the Challanger. I think Ford has a real winner here - again. Good for them.

Unfortunately, I don't have $40k laying around at the moment, so any lottery wins would be helpful.  :)

This has been talked about over and over, and the simple matter of the currency exchange has nothing to do with it(well, not nothing, but certainly not everything) They will sell a FAR greater number of these in the US than they ever will here in Canada, so they need to make more on the ones they sell to make it profitable. Also, I don't know if this is the case with the Mustang, but prices can also be deceiving based on content. I used to own a Lexus GS, and it sold for a $14000 higher starting price in Canada than the US model. Looking into it though, the CDN base model included leather, moon roof, bi XENON lights, and a few other goodies that were optional on the US model. The Canadian market didn't justify the less equipped model, so we got the one they thought we would buy.

The New Fiesta. The New Focus. The New Taurus. The F150 (yeah, I know, but it's still class-leading). The Fusion.

And now The New Mustang.

Ford (read, Mulally) has really raised the bar. I'm impressed (now, just bring over the current Euro Mondeo, the Falcon Ute and the Focus RS, and it's a near-total winning line up). Good work, Ford.

I agree, FORD is on a roll, and this new Mustang is another great product. It's looks are not as shockingly retro or dramatic as the Camaro and Charger, but I think that is because we have seen it around a while. As far as interior design, and material quality, the others can't come close.

Agree that Ford has a winner here but I've got to comment on the price differences between US and Canada.

/rant on

All I've got to say is BS! It has nothing to do with supply and demand. In fact, many cars are actually built here in Canada. It's all smoke and mirrors and the automakers are pulling the wool over your eyes. They charge what they charge because the market bears it. It's that simple. If Canadians, en masse, started to cross the border to buy their cars you watch how quick prices would drop in this country. There is absolutely no reason why our prices aren't the same or, at most, a bit higher than the US except that it pads the manufacturer's wallets. Look at the Corolla for example, it's only a couple of grand higher than it's US counterpart. It's not worth it to cross the border for a Corolla IMO.

If you think that HIDs and leather and moonroof are worth even a 10 grand difference than I've got a bridge to sell you. The only reason many more don't cross-border shop is because of financing, warranty and they are simply ignorant to what's involved and don't want to inform themselves. In the case of the 'Stang you don't have to worry about warranty as someone has already mentioned. There are plenty of Web sites that explain in excrutiating detail what's involved in importing a car to Canada and whether it's worth it for your particular model (Corvette is a huge "DO IT"). They even have detailed info on whether your warranty will be honored. For instance, I know with Subaru that you have warranty but it's covered by Subaru in the US. You have to pay out of pocket and then send the bill to the States to be remunerated. Yeah, I know, that will be too big a hassle for some. It would be for me. It seems to me, though, that the biggest factor is financing and there you have to do some research as well. Is it worth it to get a loan from the bank for your US purchase? Will the bank agree?

Maybe if more of us decide we're not going to put up with the unwarranted price differences the auto industry will back down. If Joe Sixpack can get photo radar (Read: huge cash cow) removed in BC and Ontario it's definitely possible.

A real world example:

When the Canadian Dollar hit par for the first time a few years ago I know a guy who bought a Dodge pickup truck and he got it for close to what it cost in the States after pointing out the on-par dollar. If what the car company's apologists say is true they never could have sold him that truck for the US price. He ordered it, by the way, it wasn't one that they had sitting on the lot for months and were desperate to get rid of.

All I know is that in the end, the little guy gets it...in the end.

It has everything to do with supply and demand. If Ford didn't sell enough Mustangs to its liking in Canada, they'd lower prices. The fact that they demand more for a Mustang in Canada than they comparably do in the states is proof that they're happy with their sales numbers in Canada.

That defines supply and demand to perfection.

I didn't say it was worth it, I was just laying out the facts, and when all was equal, and you added them to the US model, the difference came down to between $4500-5000
