I understand were you're coming from Chris, because I too am torn about this car.
I'm torn over calling it the Crosstour or the Crossturd?
Yeah I think I prefer Crossturd as well.
For me there is no ambiguity, it's hideous and it's proof Honda has become Buick circa 1997, albeit with better build quality.
When I see it I think of a grossly overweight man, plowing down something deep fried, with a T-shirt about two sizes too small saying "I'm with Stupid".
I won't argue it's not well built or fun to drive, I'm sure it's both, but my god have they lost the plot on this one.
A car were the rear visibility is so bad that you need a bloody camera for backing up? What the hell have we become?
The sad thing is Honda is only reacting to marketplace demand dictated by middle America.
SUV's are not as popular, mini-vans are uncool and station wagons are a no go so we get the crossover which is marketing jargon for fat station wagon on stilts.
"Just give me something that's safe, reliable, with a big engine, lots of room, nice wide seats, cushy suspension - after all those speed bumps at Wal Mart are pretty big - and none of that manual transmission stuff like those freedom hating Euro commies"
"And for god sakes make it as plain as possible with lots of electronic crap to further insulate me from the driving experience"
It is the marketing equivalent to 'fresh frozen' and the people buy into it, incredible.
Years from now car historians will look at the Crossturd, ZDX, Venza, X6, Outback etc and wonder if it was something in the water in 2010 to make them come up with these.
