Looking at the interior shot, the ONLY thing that screams "cheap plasticky bits" is the KIA logo on the steering wheel.  If it came with a bit more subdued logo (no bold font) and maybe not shiny plastic but instead a nice inlay into the steering wheel, it'd be a top notch compact car interior.

I'm not sure about the Koupe, but IMO, the interior materials in the Forte sedan are at par with the Lancer not Mazda3.
Nice design though and the execution is fine (in the cars I sampled at least).

Wing:
I asked this before, but perhaps it got lost in the clutch discussion.... Are the door and centre console armrests padded in this model? The Forte sedans I've been in (base and mid trim I think) had pure hard plastic armrests, which I found extremely uncomfortable and I consider it's a retarded cost-cutting measure (I use them every day and it's one thing I look at inside of a car).

Not super padded but they don't seem to be that very hard plastic.  The centre armrest is harder than the door one though, pretty close to super hard.  I'll check again today.

this clutch situation almost sounds like the PDI's are not getting done correctly ???

I own a KIA Rondo and with over 46,000 km on it, I am very pleased with the vehicle.  Its as tight and rattle free as the day I bought it and can't fault the fit and finish.

How do you remap the fuel injection and re-engineer the clutch on  a PDI?

Maybe PDi means Pos DESIGN Inspection ;-)

The centre console armrest is well-padded. The door armrest is hard plastic.

"if you buy a Forte in manual form you will get used to it stalling every once in a while and you’ll get good at restarting it. Think of it as a fuel saving feature."  LOL!!

9.8L / 100km is average for this kind of vehicle?  PARDON?  7.5 in mixed driving was typical for my Civic Si.  Jeez, even my Honda Odyssey averages about 11/100km and it is a TANK.  My odyssey can get 8.8L/100km on a highway run - that is NOT impressive for a car this size.  Tercels, Civics, Focus(es) etc are all typically below 7L/100km on the highway - even the 2.5L Mazda 5, a far more powerful and refined car than this kia, does 8.0/100 on the highway.  Sorry, but this is pitiful fuel economy.

You have to take my averages in context with the rest of my blogs, I do not drive the same route as you.  I would average 14L/100km in an Odyssey

From EPA rating 14.7 city 10.2 hwy
So you would drive an Odyssey with an egg under the gas pedal

Since when is a 167 hp 2.5 l Mazda engine "far more powerful" than a Forte Koup with 170hp and 168lb ft of torque?

9.8L / 100km is average for this kind of vehicle?  PARDON?

Anecdotal numbers from different people driving different speeds, with different driving style at different locations is completely 100% useless for comparison purposes. You need some kind of standard mpg comparison that is done the same for each car.

Personally I like Consumer reports as the actually drive cars over three different repeatable tests and use inline fuel flow meters for accuracy. EPA testing is on a treadmill and they even just take the manufacturers word for it in a number of cases instead of conducting the test themselves.

CR hasn't tested the Forte yet, but the tested a 2.5L KIA optima (bigger car??). It got identical combined MPG (25 Miles/USG) in their testing to the Mazda 3 with 2.5L.

So I would say the KIA Forte to do at least as well and get fairly normal MPG for a 2.5L small sedan/coupe. Certainly cars with smaller 1.8L engines will get better fuel economy.

Just a quick update on the gas mileage I averaged 7.5 from Ottawa to Montreal at 120

CR hasn't tested the Forte yet

I wonder if they will deem it "NOT ACCEPTABLE" for the stalling problem? Surely that is a real safety issue... and they haven't been able to feature that on a cover for 30 years or so.

Here is what I suggest. Find the cord that goes from the back of your computer to the electricity jack in the wall and pull it. This should solve all your problems.
