No doubt, newer cars do almost everything better, but there is some truth to this...

What you won't find in my car is a coffee, cigarette and a cell phone. What you will find is a driver; imagine that, a driver in a vehicle. What an effing concept!
A car has to do more than just perform; it has to stir your soul!
A true driver's car does not have cup holders.

I love the sound of a Porsche flat six engine.  No need for a stereo when you're driving a car with one of these.
Years ago I had a 1970 VW single pickup with a 'breathed-on' 2.7 911 engine and Porsche 901 5 speed gearbox.
I loved winding that engine out to its 7000 red line.
One of the few cars I've owned over the years that a wish I hadn't sold.
A computer once beat me at chess, but it was no match for me at kickboxing.

Personally, I feel there's a lot of truth to that.  I'm not sure why air-cooled prices have escalated to the level of being higher than a new 911, but this might have something to do with it.

If I had known that I would have bought a couple low mileage 993 Turbos and a Carrera GT which I could have very easily doubled my money in a few years.

I had mine professionally appraised for agreed valve for my insurance and it more than doubled and I paid a good dollar for mine due to the condition and very low mileage.

Look at where 246 Dino prices have gone in the last ten years.

I paid $60K for the turbo way back when, sold it quite a few years later for $62K, that owner sold it for $65K, and this summer it sold again for "over $100K" according to the newest buyer.  (I know everyone, it's all PCA members - the car's never been advertised)  I was just so happy to recoup (and a bit more) my original outlay (not including running costs, but beats the hell out of paying running costs AND depreciation) but now, sheesh, I could have pocketed a bunch of extra moolah.  Who the hell knew that old 911 prices would sky-rocket?  Not me.  Not anyone I knew.

My uncle had a Beetle with the exact same driveline shoehorned in.  I was 16 and thought he was nuts, all the time and effort he put into the car he could have had some wicked muscle car (though he did had a big block Camaro and a Lotus Esprit Turbo as well in his stable...) - but the result was AMAZING.  I got to drive it some, and it was terrific.  He'd gone through the suspension and brakes to handle the big jump in power, and the car was so much fun.  The best part was dusting so-called performance cars with it.  And yes, it had minilites...

I know Magnus' turbo isn't completely stock, but I suspect I know the exact mods he's running: Kremer Bros waste gate and exhaust.  Why?  Period perfect, 60hp gain, and sounds fantastic.  My car was equipped as such and sounded identical to this one.  It's why I accumulated 25K-kms per summer.  Couldn't stop driving it, listening to it.

I know my 944 Turbo ain't no 911, but it's nanny free as well! No ABS even for the 1st year turbos, quite the visceral experience taking it out on the track tho, feeling the balance of the car & it's limits. And also feeling no electronic nannies saving your butt, ha, ha, ha!

944 turbo is an amazing track car - way ahead of it's time.  95% of the time at track days, they were quicker than the 911 turbos thanks to the ease of driving.  I had a couple laps in a 944 Turbo S, and loved it.  Still very raw, but so easy to push right to the limit.

Beautiful cars those old Turbo 911's. Do you have any pictures of it you could post? What colors was it?

Yeah, a good driver (like Wing) can really get around the track in one as I witnessed 1st hand! He was passing 911 turbos with my car, I was in awe of what it could do.

A new addition to the stables that I picked up this past August. Bad timing in many ways but I just could not turn it down.

A one-owner 2015 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 GTS with a 7-speed manual transmission and with...157 kilometers on it. Yes, one-five-seven kilometers. Basically a new car that was purchased July 2015. I connected my Durametric Pro diagnostic tester: 6.77 hours of run time on the engine and zero over-revs in all six ranges.

A few years ago when the new 991.2 3.0 liter twin turbos came out, I wanted one of these normally aspirated 911s. Turbos are all very nice, but I wanted a normally aspirated model.

Sorry, only photos from the dealer ad as I have been too busy breaking-in the new engine...

That video is utterly brilliant, and I am not even a fan of 911s. So, so so so so so so right...

Never! If one of these two have to go, it'll be the 991 series. It has cup holders. lol
