First Drive:
2010 Cadillac SRX

2010 Cadillac SRXThe new SRX is so completely new that it is difficult to compare it to the outgoing model, say Managing Editor, Grant Yoxon.  Now front-wheel drive with optional AWD, the 2010 SRX offers two smaller V6 engines with better fuel economy.

What is the trend towards pointy noses and squashed rear ends? Seems all these SUVs are trying to mimic the BMW X6, which is about the most hideous car on the market. But then again, BMW sells a lot of them at absurd prices so I assume they are doing something right and the others are equally correct in following them.

The car seems overweight, underpowered and and a classic example of GM badge engineering. I doubt many Cadillac buyers want at 5100 RPM torque peak. Can't see it taking it too many RX customers but time will tell.

Horrible. Cadillac takes a proper N/S engine config that is RWD biased and replaces it with a torqueless, transverse minivan with no cargo carrying ability. I'll take the previous generation with the V8 and all the goodies. A 2 year old creampuff should have almost depreciated by half.

Is this car worth the premium over it's chev and GMC variants? Seems to have taken all the great bits out of the former SRX (which was awesome to drive, I had a V8 version) and dumbed  down and homogenized it to the point where no one will want this thing. The old SRX was unique and worth the premium, the new SRX IMHO is simply another "me-too" mid-sized semi-luxury SUV in a very crowded market.  :P

I do not think you got any right

The SRX is based on GM's Theta Premium platform -- an enhanced version of the regular Theta architecture, which forms the basis for the 2010 Chevrolet Equinox and 2010 GMC Terrain.

Used for the Saturn VUE IIRC....

"GM is preparing a premium version of Theta. Reports differ, but the general consensus is that it is a combination of the current Theta and elements of the new Epsilon 2 architecture, with some Lambda components as well. So far, the only models are the Saab 9-4X and Cadillac SRX. Despite the fact that these vehicles are loosely based on Theta, which is often used for small CUVs, it is believed that these will actually be midsized, since many have predicted that the 9-4X replace the similarly sized Saab 9-7X. There are also rumors of 7-seater TE (Theta-Epsilon) models under development."

I was under the impression that the Saturn VUE was to be recycled re-engineered for Buick but it seems they're using the Delta platform instead.

Was going to put the VUE, but no point about talking about the dead ;D

You guys notice what they did there?  They blacked out a foot of body work all around the bottom of the car to make it look like it has more ground clearance (and hence more SUV like).

That is so so lame!  ::)

I have to agree that I'm not impressed either. I don't like the rear end at all and the 3.0 base engine seems pretty anemic. I mean, 223 ft-lbs of torque and a 4000 lb+ vehicle that may often be loaded with 700- 1000 lbs of people and gear while on a road trip is not a recipe for a enjoyable driving experience.

My wife would say it looks good and has all the features she would want  ???

I guess maybe that is the target market. SRX driving soccer Mom's :P

It doesn't look bad.....I'm just disappointed that they took a great car and turned it bland. May wife on the other had couldn't care less. Is this vehicle more marketable than the version it replaces?

I guess the problem is if you are only selling 20 a month in Canada of the old style,
Why would you keep it around.
They probably should call it something else, so it would not get compared with the old SRX

Somebody going into a Cadillac house is going to be faced with a dilemma. SRX or CTS wagon, which has a lot of the same features I think. And the price isn't that much different either.

Too confusing perhaps?  ???
