Where did you take that from Spock? Cool shot!

Thanks.  I took the shot while on the Empress of Canada cruising around Centre Island and Toronto waterfront.

Neat.  How did he/she do that?  A graduated natural density filter?

I asked and here is the response:

No filter. Zoomed in to 300mm on my zoom which made sun look big. But it was already larger than normal due to diffraction or whatever.

I stopped for lunch and thought I'd build a little fire to cook some hot dogs. Oops - I guess I got carried away with the lighter fluid.

So now you Calgary folks know where all that smoke is coming from.  :)

Just happened to look up while walking the dog and spotted this perky little fungus.

Why'd the caterpillar cross the road?

I've no idea, which is why I moved him onto the shoulder before he got squished.

Then I took a picture of him.  ;D

I took this picture this afternoon. I'm still playing around with the new Sigma and I wanted to try some "live action" macro. Admittedly, I had to crop this one for composition because the magnification of the lens is 1:3 in which isn't close enough to come really tightly onto the bee. Fortunately, the image quality is good enough that it tolerates some cropping.

:o  I would kill to have that kind of capability.  You can actually see the pollen on the bee's legs!  WOW!

Here's a closer crop of the first photo...and a second photo of a bee in flight.

I'm really pleased with the new lens which, ironically, I never really intended to use as a macro lens. I just wanted to use it as a normal lens. It also points to one of my preferences with Olympus which is the in-body image stabilization. Although lens based IS is arguably superior, I like the in-body IS because it allows me to use something like the Sigma with a degree of stabilization. These shots are hand held.
