A guy handing out leaflets for a local gym calls you fat, do you...

a) ask them to stop being so rude and walk away
b) call the company that they represent and explain that their staff are being rude

or

c) call 911 and report it to POLICE!

Unbelievable!  911 is for emergencies, right?!!  Next, kids will be instructed by their parents to call 911 when they're called names in the schoolyard.

Not the only recent time that 911 has been misused:

Probably nobody misuses 911 in Canada because everyone is too afraid of being tasered.   :run:

Don't have to call 911 for non-emergencies.   Your regular local police phone number is published in the phone books like White Pages.   Or you can Google it.

No kidding!  Cripes, have the copes here gone taser happy!  I thought it was to be used in place of a gun, offering a last-chance non-lethal (hopefully) alternative to lethal force.

Weird thing is,here in Saint John,if you call the regular 7 digit number for "police" in the phone book you get the 911 centre. ???

That's strange.   Maybe they're trying to save money by having one call center.   I dread the day when 911 service gets outsourced to India...

  Having watched the report, It says her husband called police, Not that he called 911.  I can understand if a guys wife calls him crying because she was followed and harangued as the report indicates, see why he'd call the police.

  I had an uncle who felt a need to call people fat, and when he tried it on me I pointed out I could lose weight but he'd always be ignorant. Its saved me being invited to a few family reunions since so it was win win.

Yeah, "calling the police because someone is following your wife and haranguing her about being fat" is a whole lot different than "calling 911 because someone said to your wife that he's fat."

I wonder if the people in Calgary thought it would been better to be tazer or shot ???

That's not REMOTELY what I said.  I don't think it's ever okay to harangue a stranger about their weight.  I do think that it's a particularly low blow with new mommies, given that weight gain is a healthy part of pregnancy, and is also a reality given the physical difficulties of pregnancy and the recouperation from childbirth.

When someone says "kicking a dog is just wrong," that doesn't mean they support kicking cats.
