Barrie was deemed to be an undesireable and has been banned from the board.

May I suggest that it was not the person, but his emotional outbursts and often personal attacks on other posters that resulted in his departure.

One poster we have not heard from since Dec 18/08 is "davidm" from North Vancouver. He was a reasonable and personable guy. Too busy, I suspect.  ???

Back on the original topic... I still speak to MDX from time to time via email.  He's doing very well -- business is going great for him and the family and home are all great as well.  Oh, and if you thought it was exciting when he bought the Porsche, hopefully he'll come back and share what he's looking at purchasing now!  All the big dogs are in Calgary now!  ;)

Not again! Barrie was the source of infinite and unlimited entertainment to me. He was the epitome of the Chevy people I dealt with while I worked for GM, totally loyal to the brand but not enough cash or credit to swing a new one!

Actually, it was kind of tragic dealing with Barrites. They had been raised in an era where loyalty to institutions was paramount and when their GM junk started its fast disassembly process at 60,001 km it was pretty hard for them to fathom.

Barrie knew his stuff. When GM owners came in asking for help, he was there to help. And that's the whole point of this forum isn't it?

:iagree:  The Ignore function is there for those who object to a given poster, after all.  OTOH, Guests and new users who are unaware of that function do not have that luxury, and certain actions can reflect badly on the board in that case.

Too bad - he was a reasonable and knowledgeable guy, most of the time.

Maybe we should have a Bring Back Barrie protest.  ;)

You just can't help yourself, can you?  Is there even an iota of class in your family lineage?

Please let's not and let's not go through this again.  It was a difficult decision and it took weeks for anyone to notice and the board has been very civil with 1000% less posts to moderate since he was banned.

He is a very knowledgeable man and I wish the act did not have to be done, but after multiple warnings he failed to contain some of his inappropriate language and insults.

Nothing against his GM position, it was all about conduct.

+1 The overall tone of the site is calmer and less "verbally violent" since May 10.

Agree with AB on this one. Everyone should be using that ignore button if they don't like what's being said, not, repeat not, trying to egg somone on or start an argument. This is a Car Forum people. You want to argue, take it somewhere else or hit the ignore button.

With due respect to Railton and Airbalancer, I disagree slightly with that comment. I do not think that just because a poster is "egged on" or "baited" into a violent argument, he/she needs to respond that way. Many posters, if baited, just "walk away" or ignore the comments made, or turn the comments into a joke. A mature poster can do that (and I'm not saying I am always successful at doing that myself..!!). People would bait Barrie as they knew he would react, usually violently/profanely.

I also think that discussions, even arguments, can happen on a forum without the resorting to name calling and questions of one's mother's pedigree. Surely we can present opposing viewpoints and agrue without being banned. It's the personal attacks that caused this poster, after repeated warnings, to be banned.

This particularly applies in the "Off Topic" threads, where there are some subjects I would never get into on a forum as they always end up in severe arguments, and name calling (any threads on abortion and organized religion are like that, to name only two). Those topics are "no-wins" in my book.

Maybe for you.

My bad but he really reminded me of old farts who would hang around dealerships and try to get someone to wrench on their used car for free.

That's just a personal insult.  :nono:

More repressed anger of said old farts who were keeping me from my dealership mission: making money.
