Wow...that's a neat car!!  Old JDM. I dig the mirrors!!  Hmmm..what year was that one I wonder??  You know what year that is?? Even the earliest GT-Rs has that big/small tails.  Here's a 1973:  The models prior to the 1973 had square tails....

Yea..I was gonna say that's a 1977-1981.  There were no GT-Rs in those years.....The GT-R always had the big/small tails. (except for the 1st gen in the late 60's early 70's)

Friend of mine got himself a GTR. This guy loves driving his cars on the track. The GTR exceeded his expectations and then some.

That is... until he found out about Nissan's warranty policy... If it breaks and it breaks from putting the car on the track - you pay for it.

Needless to say that GTR was sold quite fast.

I'm not sure whether most car companies pay for damages from tracking a car??

A few Z06 owners got owned by warranty for the same thing.........

Definitely not unique to sports cars.  No doubt they would deny claim on a Hyundai if they knew it happened on the track..

Well damages being things like a fried clutch or turbos causing migranes. The guy used to have a GT Speedster (heavily modified 600 somethign horsepower 911 Turbo) and had a pretty good understanding with the dealer here in Toronto that it was being thrown around the track. (Actually have pictures of that one.. need to look for em).

Right now he's doing the same with a Gallardo. It was the warranty stuff behind the GTR that surprised us.

Well, that does change things. You said all "Skylines", not all GT-R's originally.

As far as the tailights?  The Cobalt borrowed them from Nissan.  The Skylines have always had those unique tail lights.....

^^Like I said.  I don't think most any company would have warranty coverage on a damaged component knowing the car was tracked....It says as much in most ownership manuals...

Yes, yes.  I assumed since we were talking about the Spec V and GT-Rs, you would make the connection that we were talking about GT-Rs and not the pedestrian Skylines.  Technically, G35s were called "Skylines" in Japan too....(during the absence of the "true" Skylines)

Well, I assumed that you meant all Skylines since you said all Skylines.

Can't find any cars with multiple, horizontal round tail lights before Chevy in 1958. Still hunting....

(Dodge had some round lights stacked vertically in 1955)

Good thought!
Those were cool cars.

Read an interesting book once about AMC and the quality of the metallurgy in their engine blocks. Apparently, the quality was truly amazing!

Who the f--- cares who used round taillights first?  It's not like it's a totally novel and unique idea.  If moveable type printing could be independently invented in two separate countries (Germany and Korea), I'm sure round tail lamps could have been independently created by Nissan and GM (and about a dozen other companies).

True.. but Lambo and Porsche seemed pretty okay with knowing that the car was being tracked.
