The Day the Music Died...
« on: January 28, 2009, 11:35:59 am »
Anyone besides me remember Feb 3/59 - the Day the Music Died, as popularized in McLean's song of the same title?? Buddy Holly, Richie Valens and the Big Bopper all perished in a small plane that crashed at night in wintery conditions just outside Clear Lake, Minn.

50th anniversery of the tragedy coming up. Man, some of us are getting OLD.... 8)

I have no recollection of that day.  I have the song in my sheet music and CD collections.

I remember it vaguely, We didn't hear about it until the next day 'cos of timezones. I was only 13.

I have always wondered.... would there have been a songwriting team of Holly McCartney or Lennon Holly ? or even all three

I was only 7, but I clearly remember seeing pictures of the crash site on the TV news. I didn't realize who they were at the time because my old man refused to allow 'black' music, as he called it, in the house. A sad day. :'(

Boy you must be old. :D  (Actually, I'm only a few years younger than you)

I remember reading about it some years later.  My brother and sister used to play that kind of music.

I still have a Buddy Holly CD in my car 'changer... and sing along to the songs when they are on Sirius or I play that disk.
( mind you I also have Lonnie Donegan, Fleetwood Mac, Dixie Chicks and Sousa marches in the 'changer as well as an MP3 with ALL the Beatles tracks)
