FWIW, the Mazda 6 and new Fusion use the CD3-2 platform......

Mazda 6 yes, but Fusion?  Please post a link.

Sorry Steve...I have no link.  This was right from a Ford engineers mouth, so I have no reason to dispute it.  He also said it would be used for a Lincoln...though I don't recall what one. As I said...we did all of the optics for this vehicle and we speak to these people often.  Here's a crappy pic of the entire headlight assembly sitting right beside me...:)  (pic is of Taurus housing)

You're so full of :censor: Steve it's coming out of your ears. I've had a number of Fusions and Camrys as rentals. The room inside is identical. And the Mazda6 and Fusion use the CD3-2 platform.

Camry      Fusion
Leg Room Front    105.70 cm (41.22 in)    107.40 cm (41.89 in)
Leg Room Back    97.40 cm (37.99 in)    94.00 cm (36.66 in)
Shoulder Room Front    146.90 cm (57.29 in)    145.90 cm (56.90 in)
Shoulder Room Back    144.10 cm (56.20 in)    143.40 cm (55.93 in)
Head Room Front    98.60 cm (38.45 in)    98.30 cm (38.34 in)
Head Room Back    95.90 cm (37.40 in)    96.10 cm (37.48 in)

The CD3 platform is expected to be redesigned for the 2008 Mazda 6 replacement.

Future CD3 2 models:

    * 2008 Mazda 6
    * 2010 Ford Fusion
    * 2010 Mercury Milan
    * 2010 Lincoln MKZ
    * 2011 Ford Edge
    * 2011 Lincoln MKX

The CD3 2 platform is expected to be phased out early next decade and give way to either the Ford EUCD platform currently used under the Ford Mondeo in Europe or more likely by the EUCD2 as Ford aligns its global product architecture. The next generation of Fusion, Edge, MKX and MKZ debuting in 2012-2013 are expected to be built on this platform.

^^^^Oh ok...there ya go.  Like I said...I heard it right from the engineer's mouth.  At the time, he only mentioned 3 vehicles sharing the platform...Mazda6, Fusion, un-named Lincoln....

I don't really care what the platform is, but I was pointing out that the Fusion and the 2008 and down Mazda 6 where the same platform and that Mazda was a small car inside.

"Since the Fusion is an American car can we please dispense with metric measurements.  "
What does that have to with what units are used ???
Are not  engine size given in metric

RR do you make  your product  at work in metric or imperial  ?

It's an American car and Americans measure objects in inches and feet.  It's ridiculous to refer to a car being 2mm larger as if that actually relates to anything useful.

Ya ya ya, I found this as well, but it doesn't actually state anything definitive.

The fact remains that the current Fusion is built on the old Mazda 6 platform and as such is a cramped vehicle to drive and it looks small because of it's hideous squat appearance.  Now the new Mazda 6 is a real improvement in terms of size so that is going to be a plus for the Fusion, if infact it's to be built on that platform.  However, without continuous 0% financing, it's all moot.

RRocket, do you guys manufacture the lights (the finished product) or you just do the drawings for the actual manufacturer?

Getting back to the title of this thread Ford reveals Proper Flagship Taurus

Ford is trying to market an upscale sedan while using an old nameplate that was far from upscale.  It's too confusing.  Ppl are going to check out a car that will be way to expensive for what they are seeking.  The stripper Taurus is going to be the same price as a loaded Camry with leather, sunroof, with a fuel efficient 179 hp/6 speed auto in a country that will be living thru a severe reccession for at least the next 3 years.  The Taurus is doomed.

What Ford needs to do is build a car that fits exactly between the Camry and the Accord while offering more for less.  The Fusion is out of that league.  It had it's chance and it failed.

We do it all!  Everything you see in a headlight/taillight (except the actual bulbs).  Everything else though.

You said your company will do the Fiesta lights too IIRC. Are you guys making the tail lights too? Are they for the hatchback or sedan only?

although I wish it was built by Canadian non-unionized workers.

We (my shop) did all the lenses, lighting and optics for it....does that count???   ;D

Just curious - do you work for Active-Burgess?

I don't think Ford is trying to go upscale with the Taurus (like Hyundai with Genesis). It's just their interpretation of what a modern full size (not mid-size) sedan should be. Will they be successful or not, only time will tell.

The Taurus is V6 only so I don't think a comparison with the Camry I4 makes any sense; perhaps with the V6 Camry, but then again, the Taurus is a full-size and the Camry it's a mid-size.

The "stripper" Taurus will be around $26K USD IIRC, which is right between the stripper Camry V6 ($24,200 USD) and the stripper Avalon ($27,800 USD), but I bet it will be better equipped in the lowest trim than both.

Great! This would be a confirmation that we are indeed getting the Fiesta hatch.

Just because we made them, it doesn't guarantee that this market will get it....though I can't imagine why we wouldn't.  But you never know.... ???
