Yup. Nice looking, nice motor and an actual manual transmission! I wonder what they mean by poor ride quality?

I saw a Genesis sedan yesterday. Very nice looking. I hope they do well with them.

I took that comment to mean it was harsh, stiff and uncomfortable at lower speeds or in town. I think they liked the performance/handling but thought you had to give up too much comfort.

The sedan looks great on pictures and even better in person. THIS seems to be designed by a different group of ppl, likely with shaky hands. (the belt line)  ::)

If the manual tranny used with the V6 is the same as the one with the I4.....the I4 turbo would be the one to have since you can tune those engines like mad!

I think the fact that the Genesis (sedan) challenges the luxury brands it's a matter of perception too. I sat in one, the V6 model, and it felt like a very well done mainstream vehicle, but nowhere near the feel of a BMW, Audi or Lexus. Not even Acura or Volvo.
I guess the fake plastic wood, the grain on the dash and door panels - same as on the lower end vehicles, the big, four-spoke steering wheel with the similar design as any other Hyundai had a major contribution. Sure, it comes with a lot of features standard, but the luxury features don’t make a luxury vehicle.
The exterior looked nice though and very well executed.

I agree....When I looked at the sedan I thought more "nice Nissan Maxima" than "Mercedes"

^^^^I thought it was nicer than a Maxima (by alot). Not even close.  The one I saw had leather dash, doors and console....(was the V8 model)

FWIW, I've never been impressed with interiors in most MB......And the Genesis V8 under-cuts the cheapest V8 Mercedes by what...$20,000 or so??

Even if the Genesis Sedan is a Maxima +1 or +2...thats still really impressive for Hyundai.  Remember what they used to produce 10 years ago?

It seems like a pretty good start for them.  The coup seems like a really good and potentially classic sport coupe from that review.  I won't at all be surprised to see a decent number on the roads in a few years.

^^^^The Hyundai V8 Genesis interior is preferred over the new Jaguar XF, Lexus GS460, Mercedes E550 according to Automobiles review:

I continue to be impressed by Hyundai in general and the Genesis models in particular.  On my wish list is a sport version of the sedan with a slighty firmer suspension and manual transmission.  I know, I know... I'm not holding my breath.

Did it have a real wood trim? This is one of the main things that killed the interior feel for me as far as luxury is concerned.

The coupe exterior design doesn't inspire luxury to me either. It cannot touch the Euro coupe designs - BMW 3 Series, Audi A5.

Having said that, I would still give them credit for building some very good Hyundai vehicles, but I wouldn't mistaken them for BMW, Audi, Lexus or Infiniti.

I don't think anyone would mistaken it for a BMW or Audi, and while styling is subjective, I find the Genesis Coupe to be well proportioned and I like the "Z" lines along the side and the dip in the rear quarter windows.

Thanks for the link, Rrocket -- I'm eagerly awaiting more reports on this car.  If it's a 99% G37 coupe for $10k+ less, that sounds like a lotta car for the money to me.

Hyundai: The only problem is Perception.

I'm not saying that you've underestimated it mmret - Perception is a massive hurdle to overcome.

Toyota in the late 70's: The only problem is Perception

Honda in the early '80's:  The only problem is Perception

Lexus 1989: The only problem is Perception

GM in 2010: The only problem is Perception (?)
