In my experience, recently, Toyota Power-ed usually induce sleepiness in the quarter mile.  :)

Unleashing this powertrain down the drag strip, we recorded a stunning 0-60-mph time of 6.3 seconds, while the quarter-mile came up in 14.8 seconds at 93.7

The pricing is just right for this tall wagon. I am looking forward to test driving one when I take my Sienna for its scheduled maintenance.

Just a thought, can you imagine if Toyota builds exciting cars? People who are loyal to other brands would just hate them more.  ;)

LOL Steve, what does it mean "TOYOTA power"? Is there something magic about the power-to-weight ratio in Toyota vehicles that defeats the physics laws?

Indeed Sir!   :)

I'll explain it this way.  1995 BMW 525i 5 speed.  Without looking it up, I think that I6 had only about 190 HP.  But that was one fast car.  Same thing applies to the older Porsches.  The listed HP is not that notable, but the power train parts functioning as one unit seem to deliver the goods.  Toyota superior engineering has taken the  n/a I4 "powertrain" to a new level in the Venza.  Nothing out there compares so it's understandable ppl aren't feeling the LOVE.  :)

That numbers is crap and Forbes doesn't actually test anything.  They pulled that number out of their *ss.

we timed an AWD version of the XLE from zero to 60 mph in just 8.0 seconds

Buicks are fast in a straight line too (Buick Lacrosse Super 0-to-60-mph time: 5.7 sec. Quarter-mile time: 14.2 @ 101 mph)... then come the corners :drive2:
Toyota is going much the same way: very soft suspensions, lots of roll and lots of avoirdupois.

If Toyota actually made a sporty car that accelerated and went round corners I'd be thrilled. I would have been more than happy with a proper station wagon Camry. Hell offer something other than 6 shades of grey/beige would be a start.

The Venza is the automotive equivalent of the platypuss, neither fish nor fowl. All it's going to do is cannibalize RAV and Highlander sales. Then you have the pleasure of ponying up the better part of $1k for new 19" or 20" rubber in a few years. Yeah!

The four cylinder offering is irrelevant. Previous Highlanders were offered with a four banger. Very few were sold, so it was discontinued. The Venza is even heavier, so I'd say it meets the same fate in a year or two.

Well pick one and post some numbers.   :rofl2:

Obviously never driven the Camry SE nor a new 4 Runner which are extremely tight in terms of body roll.

All it's going to do is cannibalize RAV and Highlander sales.

What it's going to do is continue the cannibalization of the domestics.

The four cylinder offering is irrelevant

The I4 is the cornerstone of this vehicle.  85% of Canadian sales will be the in I4 and it will be a monster seller even at 5.9%  Try selling a domestic at 5.9% .... can't be done.  :)

Camry in SE guise outhandles an Accord...a car everyone generally thinks is a pretty sporty sedan...

It doesn't match the handling of the Mazda6 (or Fusion for that matter), which remains the benchmark for mainstream sedans even in it's new supersized format.
The Legacy GT, is something else, but more of a niche player

Yep. I didn't qualify it as being the fastest 6 cylinder. I said "Buicks are fast in a straight line too."

According to Motor Trend it does.  Nearly identical numbers through the slalom and skidpad.  This is for the new 2009 Mazda.  I think you must be referring to the old Mazda6 as it's a bit sharper than the new one.

As for handling, the Mazda6's added girth and heft obviously penalised its nimbleness. However, it still feels a little more dynamic and playful than the Accord and way more than the soft Camry.

I assumed we were discussing cars that ppl actually bought and were market sustainable.  Not junk.

They put the same motor in the Impala and the OPP bought a few and then learned they were crap.  Have never seen a black and white OPP Impala since.

The four-holer Super is stuffed with the 5.3-liter LS4 V-8 mated to a could-have-another-cog-or-three four-speed automatic transmission   :rofl2:. The 300 horsepower and the 323 pound-feet of torque

Those are pitiful numbers for a "high performance" 5.3 V8.

No instrumented testing for that article.  Just the "butt-o meter".  In MT, the Honda, Toyota, new Mazda6 and Fusion all score .82-.83 around the skidpad.  Though the Fusion had AWD.
