Honda Owner.  Wing said so in another thread (forget which one off hand)...  kept dereailing threads and turning them into GM vs. the World, I guess.

Really? That's too bad - he seemed like a bright guy with some actual first-hand knowledge. And entertaining, too. A loss to the Forum, IMHO.

Agreed.
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

6MT   6 MT  must be a typo      No such animal in NA . Even the 2009 is still a 5MT  ( It should be a 6MT but I guess that they did the old cost benefit thing at the factory)

Jaeger. Our 2007 Fit LX 5MT has the same as yours   the real floor mats, luggage cover and we also have a trunk mat.  Ours was cheaper of course.

Correct - typo / brain cramp.  My ride is the 6MT - hers the 5MT.  And also correct on the should be a 6MT point - about the only thing I would change.

A 6MT in the Fit would be a lot of fun.  And good for getting those highway revs down - what does Mrs. Jaeger's Fit spin at at highway speed?

A shade over 3500 rpm @ 120kph.  The 5 forward gears are quite perfectly spaced to make the most of the small motor.  But an additional taller 6th gear would defiitely make for a more relaxed and much more fuel efficient highway cruise.

In Asia the Fit is a bigtime ricer car, so I'm sure there are people who will buy it. Particularly pre-modded - keep in mind these particular immigrants do have plenty of change in the bank, and with only one kid (at least the Mainlanders) there's lots of income per capita in the family.

But for $25k + taxes I'd much rather drive a new Mazda 3, and pocket some change to boot. Even comes in a Hatch.

Well, if you add $5k worth of useless dealer accessories to the Mazda 3, it's no screaming deal either.

But the question was whether or not I'd buy a modified Fit for $25k, not which car is best given that you must buy $5k of useless dealer accessories.

oO.  I'm buying one in the spring, and then driving it from Victoria back out to Kingston.  Hopefully the stereo is good enough to drown out that highway buzzing!   :rofl2:

I forget off hand what my old Civic would spin at at those kind of speeds, but IIRC it was around 3000 rpm, so the Fit shouldn't be tooooo bad.  But I quite agree - a 6th gear would make sense for highway driving.

I don't care much for sill garnish, sport pedals, trim kits etc but I would be interested in a "smallish" car available with decent power (say...1.8 or 2.0L turbo or DI with 180-225hp?),decent suspension and some upscale features (leather, power heated seats, wood trim, power tilt&telescopic wheel, climate control, premium sound system, quality carpet, trip computer, xenon lights,ESC,multiple air bags, etc,etc).....sort of a "mini" Maxima or Accord EX-L. It would be especially interesting if it was offered as a hatch like many of the European cars.

Sort of like a GTI or an Audi A3 then.     ;)

The automatic revs much lower in this car on the highway. Most people however don't like the automatic in this size of car.

I wouldn't want to break the $20-21 pre-tax barrier on a Fit.

Nice reliable car with brilliant rear packaging, but not mature or powerful enough for me to spend more than that on IMO.

Hey, good for you.  We've taken several highway trips in the car now - though none even NEARLY that long - and I don't really find it all that buzzy or loud.  Now, if you like to cruise at 140 where your revs would be just north of 4k - you really want to be able to brank up the stereo.

The Auto does have taller gearing, making for a more relaxed cruising experience.  But the tradeoff is that it's not as responsive the rest of the time.

Yeah - I get that - but I'm coming from it from a different angle.  $5k worth of useless accessories is a bad idea whether they are tacked onto a Fit, a Mazda 3, an Accord or whatever.  So the answer for me to the original question is "No" I wouldn't buy that load of crap on a Fit, and more to the point, "No" I wouldn't buy that load of crap on anything else, either.

Jaeger

But the question was whether or not I'd buy a modified Fit for $25k, not which car is best given that you must buy $5k of useless dealer accessories.

There will be takers.  Perhaps not so much anymore given the lower gas prices, but some acquantences I spoke to were trading in their mid-size cars to get smaller cars like the Yaris and Fit JUST to avoid paying the high gas prices.

Upon questioning, none of them had done the calculation on how many years the payback was given the high cost of a Fit (my opinion) and the depreciation loss on their current cars.

Why do people feel they need to "justify" buying a new car?

Exactly!....(except without the German reliability issues)

Why oh why can't Honda or Toyota build an Audi ?  ;)
