I hate X-mas, and all similar holidays.  Just an annoyance IMO.

Today I drove past the Bayshore mall here in Ottawa... well past not really anyways, I was about 1km away -- the line-up of cars to enter the parking garage was in my way to merge onto the highway!  It was well over 1km long of 2 lanes... crazy.

Oh and this was at 1pm

^^^^That's one of the reasons I loathe these holidays.

I made it clear long ago to family, friends, etc that I will no longer be buying gifts anymore...so I told them to please not buy me anything either.  I enjoy the holidays much more this way.

I only buy a gift for one person..and that's the person I am dating.

Bought almost everything online.

I can't stand lineups, driving around the parking lot for 15 minutes just to find parking etc.

Christmas shopping was completed last month.  Not quite as much fun or challenge as waiting until the 24th.

I did that last year.  Definitely a good idea, and I should have done so this year.  OTOH, the little bit of stuff I did order is stuck at FedEx's warehouse because of the weather, so...

If it is a critical present, it would be better to buy it at a physical store and take it home.  I ordered something online for me last week and it still hasn't arrived yet.  :(

Quite a few items we ordered online were back ordered or went out of stock. Rescheduling, altering, canceling orders is part of the game.

Some of us still call it Christmas, James.   ;)

And yeah, I still have a few things to buy, but that's because I'm not celebrating with family until the 27th this year due to scheduling and geographic conflicts.  Luckily I know exactly what I need, so it will be a get-in-and-get-out scenario.  My family only buys gifts for the kids, anyway (thank goodness).  I'm content to just see family, and have our traditional dinner of turkey, tourtière, and ragoût de pattes de cochon, as well as far too much wine to play board games late into the night (which we always attempt anyway  :D).

One of the benefits of marriage is that gifting is automatically taken care of.  :)   However, the older you get the more you view the experience as horrendously wasteful.

X-mas is tomorrow for me (technically later today).  I finished my shopping a while ago and the significant other's family lives just across the street from the West Edmonton Mall, so it would be no problem to get there quickly if need be.

Edmonton is definitely cold this year, but it ain't too snowy.  How's snowmaggedon in Ottawa James?

Last year, or the year before, Wal-Mart experimented with 24 hour shopping the week prior to Christmas and I remember the story about people heading there after midnight and finding it less crowded.
They are doing it again this year for those of you who might still be one or two presents shy of a full load. ;D

:iagree: My kids need new toys like they need a hold in the head. That said mine are all in the age group that AB speaks of below and as Christmas draws closer their excitement is both electric and palpable waiting for "the big man" to come.

That is the perfect window for Christmas, IMO. They are just old enough to understand the joy of getting a present and still young enough that it hasn't been totally perverted by television or their peer group.

Ragoût de pattes de cochon!     Recipe needed please. Last pigs feet I have had were with lentiile de Puy and before that with Butter beans and hot peppers
