Finally pulled the trigger and bought a new mower to replace my 42 yr old Toro.  The Dewalt cordless is the new improved model that comes with two 20 volt 10.0 ah batteries and two chargers.  The batteries out of the box have been in the chargers for over 5 hours and are still not fully charged.  These are the largest capacity batteries I've held in my hands and I'm surprised they are physically no larger than Dewalt's 20v 4 or 5 ah batteries.  Must be "denser" cells.  Dewalt's original cordless mower suffered from insufficient run time so hopefully these 10.0 ah batteries have fixed that.

Sadly, it'll be another month or so before I get a chance to try it out because the grass is still quite brown.

curious to hear how that mower works...20v seems low for a mower...most are in the 40v or more range...mine is 80v, but the only batteries you can get in Canada are the 2Ahr (you can get up to 6Ahr in the US).

Both batteries have to be installed in order for the mower to operate and I'm guessing the two 20v batteries are connected in series to get 40v.  I'm looking forward to giving it a test drive.

Interesting link about tools companies
https://toolguyd.com/dewalt-craftsman-stanley-vs-milwaukee-ryobi-empire-stanley-black-decker-tti-2018-financials/

That explains how Homedepot can sell an 18V Milwaukee hammer drill/ impact driver combo for 179.

What was wrong with the Toro?

What was wrong with the Toro?

It's 42 years old so it's tired, just like its only owner.  The pull cord doesn't retract fully, fuel is getting into the oil and the muffler is shot (I've been wearing hearing protection the past few years).  The muffler is special in that it exhausts through the deck into the cutting area so it's doubtful it's available.  I replaced it once somewhere along the line.  Other than a new set of points, new wheels and a handful of new plugs over its lifetime, it's run reliably. I'm almost certain it will still start and run.

I bought it new in 1979 for the princely sum of $329 and according to the Bank of Canada inflation calculator, that is equivalent to $1184 in today's dollars.

I have Dewalt's 40v leaf blower and string trimmer that I bought 5 or 6 years ago.  A quick look online shows 40v Dewalt batteries are no longer available.  >:(
About 10 years ago, I bought a Dewalt 18v Li-Ion drill and impact driver combo.  About a year or 2 later, Dewalt moved to their 20v platform.  >:( >:(  Hopefully their 20v platform will stick around in the long term.

Good to know, thanks.  But with my luck, my drill or driver would die the day after I buy the adapter  :rofl2:

Also, PJungnitsch pointed out that battery packs can be rebuilt.

IBM M15 Split keyboard
« Reply #7416 on: April 09, 2021, 05:19:42 pm »
Not exactly a 'buy' but a 'bought', mid 90's from the electronic surplus pile at Princess Auto

Used it for a while when I was learning computers, as the split seemed to help with typing. Didn't really like the clacky keys, got a 'nice' Microsoft one and kept this as a backup all through university. Been in a box in the basement for years, need to get this on Ebay before I totally forget and throw it out by mistake

Would be a shame as it turns out these can be fairly sought after

Wireless Microsoft Curve with wireless mouse.  I do love the ergonomics.  A bit spendy, but worth it, IMO.

The old IBM Model M keyboards are  very desirable, and also quite valuable
