I have a humidifier on my furnace and I can't recommend it enough. I haven't had to do any maintenance to get it to work right.

The old ones used to be mould farms.  I'm guessing the tech has improved since 1995?

Every one around here has them and I've never heard of any mold complaints

I really don't see how COVID impacts home furnace filters.

I went with Merv 8 when I bought my last batch.  Any reason to go higher?

i think they are Merv11, but can't remember exactly...they are sourced from furnacefilters.ca...looks like they are even cheaper if you buy direct (will do that next time).

Such a fountain of knowledge you are!

I went with Merv8 based on that being the consensus among a bunch of websites.

What I hear is going too high is hard on the furnace....probably a waste of money too all things considered.
i think (but i'm sure AB can confirm), that you are supposed to match the filter to your furnace...so if your furnace was designed to use a Merv8 filter, use that...using a higher one will be more difficult for it to pull air through and wear things like the motor out faster...at least, that's how it was explained to me before.

I was thinking this was too trivial to post, but really, you guys are talking about furnace filters, so apparently nothing is too trivial.

The kid's laptop (HP Elitebook, i5 3320M, 4GB RAM, 128GB SSD) was performing poorly, not playing Netflix smoothly, lagging a lot on Roblox, basically all simple tasks that it should be able to handle. When I bought it for her before XMAS I identified the 4GB of RAM as needing to be upgraded sometime in the near future, and I was right. Her system was using 100% of system memory. Found 2x4GB sticks of DDR3 1333Mhz SODIMM on Kijiji for $30. They turned out to be Corsair, too. Nice. Swapped them in for the single 4GB stick that was already in there. Problem solved.

I'll list the 4GB stick on Kijiji for $30 and try to make back what I spent on her new RAM.

Fold neatly, or Wad up?  Stand or Sit while wiping?  There's some serious debate to be had on the subject...

:censor:!  How'd I miss that one?  That's the most controversial one.

I used to be under and in until I met my wife who was Over and out.  She steadfastly refused to change to meet my requirements, and well, being a good dutiful husband, obviously I was the one who adapted.

Heh, on that topic I was thinking what has been the best purchases I've made during the pandemic, and upgrading my basic bidet toilet seat to a heated seat/heated water version is right up there. Soft close lid, night light, all around awesome

The VR headset was great too when working from home, so nice to get up, throw on the headset, and get a couple minutes of exercise every hour in a totally different world

Apple watch has been way more useful than I thought it would be. Control music/youtube from my wrist, answer calls, view outside temp and wind at a glance, track activity, etc

Anything others have felt to be their good purchases for getting through the pandemic/working from home?

Got this Samsung 32" 4K display for just $299 and it arrived today: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B08JXG2518/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Lots of bang for the buck. I had been wanting to get a good monitor for a while but wanted something with USB C (so I only need one cable to connect and charge my MacBook) and those tend to be pricey right now. 32" 4K for $300 is a no-brainer. It's also a bit of unique product in that it is basically a smart TV as well and you can connect a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse and use it as a bit of a dumb terminal with Office 365 or Remote Desktop to another computer.

GE dishwasher started leaking some time ago. It's the second third GE giving me trouble. The fridge is already in the dump. Everything is Mexican made and the parts are junk. Never again.
Anyways, looked up the part and it is "WD15X10014"
The price spread is ridiculous but having amazon prime is nice. Hopefully it will get here in a few days.

P.S. Forgot a GE microwave was acting out too but it was a simple loose connection in that case.

Amazon screwed up the listing somehow and it took weeks for the part to arrive. To their credit they did offer me a discount. Anyway, the dishwasher is working like new now.

Came across of this on reddit:

Did not spend much except I bought HDMI converter to S-video, so now my Apple TV is connected to my 1994 RCA CRT 36" in the basement. I'm awaiting a 2nd HDMI converter to audio SPDIF (optic) to be linked to my Yamaha sound processor to improve cracking fire sounds  ;D

Meantime, below YT fireplace on my RCA
