So I'm really bad with usernames, and I often confuse DirtyJeffer with DriverJeff, and because I'm good friends with DriverJeff in person, I regularly get confused reading DirtyJeffer's posts...

Where do you use a heater like this? I'm assuming you can't use it inside.

I have one of those that runs on propane, kerosene was hard to find and crazy expensive.   We occasionally use it to get the cottage up to temp in winter,  turn it on,  (and the pellet stove) crack a patio door and go for a walk, come back in 30 minutes and it's much warmer.  Good for garages and sheds, but with nobody in or mucho ventilation

I used to have one just like it for the garage.

Fire it up before working in the garage and it would be toasty warm.

Anyone buying an air purifier?

https://www.cbc.ca/news/business/portable-air-purifier-tests-marketplace-1.5900782

I didn't read the article but watched the episode on Marketplace last week and found it pretty informative.  My wife hasn't turned the diffuser back on since so that's a good thing.   ;D  Also, another Dyson product that's a 3 dressed up as a 9.

AB, we'll likely need a new furnace/HVAC in a few years...out of curiosity, what is a good system/set up to go with??...we have an NG furnace and an AC unit...i wasn't sure about those fancier filter/humidity type systems you can add to it...i don't think our place is THAT dry, but my wife does get allergies from time to time so i wasn't sure if there is a "latest and greatest" air filtration system to look at nowadays.

How old is your present system ?
I would not get a humidifier installed , just because their is a a lot of maintenance on those units to make them work correctly
If there is room get a 4” thick filter as you with only need to change once or twice per year or go with 1” thick change it every couple of months
I would get with the highest seer rating AC unit you can afford with multi stage cooling
I think almost all furnaces are atleast 97% efficient ,get  multi stage gas valve with a ECE motor if you can afford it

current set up is original with house, so 16 years old now...still works fine, but i'm sure i'll be in the market in the next few years (i think they say 20 years for a furnace is average?)...ok, scratch the humidifier thing then...current unit uses the 4" filter...found some on Amazon for a decent price so picked some up last week ($20 each)...any brands to look at or avoid?...our current units are York (what the builder used)...haven't had any issues and we usually get them serviced every couple of years.

We got a new furnace and AC a year and a half ago, nice to not have to worry about the furnace, the one we replaced was from the 80's

Good to check reviews for furnace companies and get some quotes, the ones we got were all quite different

Use a 4 inch filter with a MERV 11 rating, it's pretty dirty after 6 months.

Went without a humidifier installed (they are apparently easy to add after if you really want) and put a portable one in the bedroom
