Well, I did it. Just ordered 2x Oculus Quest 2's. They should be here December 14th.
We have one, it's really good!
I'm really looking forward to Beat Saber at first. I've played it a few times on my BIL's PS4 VR system, and really enjoyed it. I played a lot of Guitar Hero (and got quite good at it) in my early twenties, so beat saber is a natural progression.
Once I get bored of Beat Saber, I'll probably link it to my PC and start playing some more demanding titles.
Isn't the whole point of Quest 2 to not have it tethered to anything?
Kind of, yes. It has its own hardware, so you can play completely untethered if you like. However, the onboard hardware isn't that powerful, therefore the graphics are limited. You can link it to a PC and use the powerful PC hardware to push much better graphics to the headset. There are also some games that are only available for PC tethered systems, such as Half Life: Alyx. And, as I mentioned, some other titles that are available on both the Quest stand-alone platform, and also on PC VR, will have much better graphics when tethered to the PC.
So for games like Beat Saber, and other arcade-y games, I'll probably play them on the Quest's hardware to take advantage of the untethered experience. But for games that are more about immersion, I'll probably hook them up to my PC in order to get the best possible graphics.
