I don't think there's any law against it. Is it the greatest idea? Probably not, but that smaller stack will be done by Christmas.

So without waiting for an answer  ,  I ASSume company A made the original contract with you and subbed the work off to company B without your knowledge or consent.

I also ASSume that you and the neighbour gave company A a deposit on the original contract.   What % was that?  20%?

I also ASSUME that you have NOT paid them the balance due.  Me thinks that come spring that they will decline to rip everything up and you'll end up getting the job for the original deposit.  Of course not what you wanted, but what can you do.

 

I paid them once they sent the quote for the repaving in the spring.  They were very upfront about how apalled they were with both the pavers treatment of their customers and the quality of their work.  At this point, I have faith in their word.  This may very well prove to be a mistake, but I am generally a trusting person and decided to take them at their word.  We'll find out in the spring.

Seems the neighbour is getting the worst off it.  Although it puzzles me why he let them continue.

Yeah, he was furious.  I too am a little surprised that he didn't stop them, but it really happened so fast.  And dealing with the guy from company B who was a full on bully probably through them off.  There were regrets for sure.

Finally got around to sweeping the chimney today, pain in the ass job, but I had done it in a few years, lotsa creosote build up... all done now though & first fire of the season in the woodstove.

Finally got around to sweeping the chimney today, pain in the ass job, but I had done it in a few years, lotsa creosote build up... all done now though & first fire of the season in the woodstove.

since i've never had a wood home that burns wood, you'd have to look into it more, but i think you can buy special fake logs that are supposed to clean creosote build up??...since it's cleaned out now, maybe buy a few and run one in the fireplace once a month (or however you use them?) to keep it clean?

Yeah, running a cleaning log once or twice a season probably wouldn't be a bad idea. Usually running a hot fire to start prevents the build up as well. I have a full stainless steel liner running up the chimney from the woodstove so that prevents a fire from spreading as well. And that's also what makes it harder to clean out, taking it all apart & then climbing up onto the roof and using the brush & rods.

I'd suggest a creosote cleaning powder.  Just toss in X amount on the hot coals.   Last chimney fire I had was only in the black pipe say 4 feet above the stove.  A section just started glowing red.

A used HP Elitebook 8570 for my daughter for $200.

I5 3320M cpu, 4GB RAM (I may end up upgrading it to 8GB), 128GB SSD, and AMD 7570M discrete graphics card. 

Being an old business laptop, it's got very good hardware.  My wife's Lenovo which we bought refurbished has similar specs (minus the discrete graphics) and we've been very happy with it.

This one is for my daughter to use, mostly for Roblox, Minecraft, and other simple games.  It will do the job very nicely, and gets her off my gaming PC. COVID has really pushed up the price of used laptops, so I feel like I got a great deal.

My wife bakes a lot, and has been asking for one.  Decided to get one for her for xmas.  I'm a cheapskate, so I was looking for a used one, but they're all $300-$350 for the smaller tilt head Artisan model.  Canadian Tire had the big one I purchased on sale for $399.  I think I got the last one in the city.  Took me 3 hours of calling around and going to different stores to finally get it.
