^^Holy Crap! That's a lot ambience! ;D
I hope your wine cellar is well stocked!

Figure working from home I'll have the woodstove going A LOT more!

I don't mind the stacking & splitting. I'll have to split 70% of this wood before I bring it in just because its too big for the firebox in the woodstove we have.

$110/cord, went up by $5 this year. 4x4 pallet stacked about 5' high or so. They're generous cords from my experience in the past with them.

I actually really like cutting, splitting, and stacking wood.  But i don't have a wood stove so it's not a chore that i have to do every year.  All my friends that burn wood are starting to hate the work involved, if not already.  Nothing like the heat that comes from a wood stove though and i find it comforting sitting by a fire.   I'm currently sitting beside our propane fireplace soaking up the heat as I type.  ;D

^^

I heated with wood (primary source) for 15 years and it is a PIA, but good propane stoves were not available.   What I do really like is outdoor fires.  They consume a lot of wood and between my son and I we have a life time supply.  We also have the machinery to move it around which is everything.  I bought an electric log splitter years ago and it will crack apart anything under 2 feet.  10 years old and still performing like new.  Yes, made in China.

In that case its 2 & 1/3 cords of wood, since 3 face cords equal 1 full cord (or bush cord as some call it). Face cords measure out to 16"x4'x8'

My neighbour and I just had our driveways paved.  And it was a gong-show.

We hired company A to do the job.  I got three quotes, there's was in the middle cost-wise and they had fantastic google reviews.  They're a younger company but everyone we interacted with was pleasant and knowledgable.

The initially proposed date was pushed back 3 weeks. Fine. Weather, plus COVID has everyone scrambling.

We finally get a date and paving company B arrives first thing, like 7 am, in the dark.   They proceed to do the final grading and paving.  We have some complicated(ish) elevations, but I think they were packed up by 9:30. From my perspective, they were way way too rushed. I can fit 5 cars in my driveway, and my neighbour has an extra 25% of length and some additional width (paging Scaerio... Scaerio to the white courtesy phone).   It was like watching a timelapse of a driveway being paved.

Before they started paving my neighbour questioned the grading and indicated that all of the previously discussed issues were not being addressed.  The foreman (and owner) of company B starts in a yelling match and continues paving.

Once they are done the work, it is immediately clear they haven't propely graded the driveway.  It doesn't flow away from my neighbours garage and flows from the middle towards my house at one point.  The day after paving I meet with the owner of company A (nice guy) and company B (total swerver).   A song and dance with excuses follows but I keep pushing and they admit that it wasn't done correctly.   (I find if you just keep pushing back on Bullies they eventually realize they have to be nice to you) So they agreed to come back and try a half-assed solution, tamp down a high spot in hopes that will get the water to drain away from the house.

They arrive a day early, without notice, and start the half-assed repair.  I'm not optimistic, but keeping quiet.  My neigbour's wife is the only one home and starts to ask about solutions to their issues (again, about which they were very explicit).  Same old run around bully song and dance.  This culminates in the owner of company B threatening to sue my neighbour, a yelling match and aggressively waving a level my Neighbour's wife.

At this point, the rep from Company A, kicks the owner of Company B off of our properties.  He apologized profusely, says they were swamped and have had to contract work out. And that they will be back in the spring to tear up the ashphalt, properly do the grading, and then repave.   He also stated they won't be hiring them again.

Such a gong show.  But Company A have been good to deal with and they stepped up.

^what a gong show!! Having been over to your place, that's not an easy job to do with the two driveways and they really would have needed to get the grading bang on in order to not :censor: it up... which they obviously didn't.

Only thing I can think of is hopefully they show up in the spring... I had the same issue with a fencing company a few years back & they went outta business over the winter  :banghead:

There's that.  I suspect by how busy these guys have been, they will be fine.

They've already sent a quote for next years job, clearly stating the grading requirements and the it will be at no cost.

I am getting a good feeling from company A, not too concerned.

Agreed.  And that the repaving is being done to address deficiencies in the work.

we booked our concrete work in late May, was shooting for a mid-July start date...as the days came and passed, we were starting to worry we made the wrong choice...in the end, they were just plain super busy, but still did a fantastic job.

I don't really understand this business about company B  ???  Where did these B guys come from?

So without waiting for an answer  :),  I ASSume company A made the original contract with you and subbed the work off to company B without your knowledge or consent.

I also ASSume that you and the neighbour gave company A a deposit on the original contract.   What % was that?  20%?

I also ASSUME that you have NOT paid them the balance due.  Me thinks that come spring that they will decline to rip everything up and you'll end up getting the job for the original deposit.  Of course not what you wanted, but what can you do.  Seems the neighbour is getting the worst off it.  Although it puzzles me why he let them continue.

Got our firewood delivered today, 1 cord this morning which I stacked already, surprisingly quick by myself even, around 45mins just carrying it by hand. Another 6 cords were just dropped off, the guy has a pretty slick set up.

So stacked another (face) cord this afternoon on my own & then put the boys to work after school & got the other 5 stacked. Usually I order only 5, but with working from home I ordered an extra 2. Ran outta room to stack it all & had to start a 2nd pile in another spot, will burn that first though.
