Had four screw piles installed yesterday for my back deck reno.  Hit rock in three of the four piles so had to make adjustments to their original positions.  That sucks because it took me a while to work out the post placements so that the deck posts don't block windows and ingress/egress to the walkout basement entrance.  Took almost 6 hours to install 4 screw piles.   :P

Hit rock with 4 of the 3 piles? That is rocky.  ;D

Rocks aside, screw piles are the way to go.

On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

Piles are the way to go for sure.  Sonotubes are good for new construction but a pita for renos.

Built a tire rack with 2x4s and installed it on the wall. I had to buy a T30 bit for the 4" screws used to secure it to the studs.

Happy to see an article about our favorite grocery chain...we LOVE this place. Savings are unreal and their brand taste as good if not better than name brands. I sooooooo wish they were in Canada.

So, as I write in another thread, our 13 year old Kenmore Elite Dishwasher started giving us the dreaded 7 count clean warning LED. This  signifies either the heater element is toast or the control board is faulty. I measured the heating element resistance at 13 to 14 ohms so it fell within specs so it meant that the control board was likely the culprit. I sourced a new control board in Oakville at $299 so I looked around. I found one for $211 in Hamilton so I went an got it this morning. I did look at Amazon and ebay but I prefer to deal with actuaal stores when I can.
After installing the new board I found that the old board definitely over heated - see pic.
Interestingly, Whirlpool is the manufacturer and provides discount on your new washer if the control board overheats and you want to go the  new dishwasher route.

Wow, now the manufacturere is buying back the damaged units for the original price!

I got a letter about that settlement a few months ago. Was for a Kitchenaid dishwasher I got rid of back around 2008 or so. It said I could be reimbursed for certain expenses, even without a receipt, so I figured what the heck and responded.

The dishwasher never caught fire on me, but I did have to replace the control board twice because it crapped out. And it was just a crappy dishwasher overall, so we got rid of it.

Never did hear back after giving my info. I’d still be happy to see a cheque show up in the mail, but I’m not going to chase it down.
