My Dell Inspiron 1525 (from Dec 2007) picked up a virus a couple of months ago, can't remove the virus. And there are many things that are wrong with it, touchpad no longer works, battery lasts 15 min, 1 usb port is broken. So I figure it's time to replace it, and let the dell be something to stream movies off of, or something for the kids, whatever.
I am quite picky with laptops. I wanted something high quality, withing budget, light (14' or smaller), and well thought out.
Must have:
HDMI
Backlit keyboard (yes I type a lot at night, especially in the bedroom when my wife/kids are sleeping)
At least 4th generation Intel i5 processor
At least 8gb of ram
SSD drive
Under $1000 (with tax)
Bought an off lease Lenovo X230 for $540 (with tax)
http://www.laptopcloseout.ca/lenovo-thinkpad-x230-2Did not have SSD hard drive, so I bought a Samsung 250gb ($158)
Only had 4gb of memory, added an 8gb stick ($65)
Had no HDMI, (but mini display port), and no optical drive. He took $20 off, and sold me a Lenovo Docking Station that had a DVD burner, HDMI, with other ports, and another AC charger. ($135)
So grand total $898. I will play around with it tomorrow, installing the new hard drive, and upgrade to windows 10.
