Finally completed my walkway/front deck project.  Was hoping to have all this done before the hot weather but ending up doing much of it through the hot spell last week.  Oh well, it's done now and the rest of the summer is for play.  :)

Dang! it looks blown up rather than just overheated  :o
Yup. What's crazy is that we usually put the dishwasher on before we leave the house in the morning.
Could have burnt the house down.

There's no excuse for that kind of failure. Looks similar to the scorched relays in my friend's LG kitchen stove.

I don't let appliances run if I'm not around anymore. I've seen, or heard too many stories like this.

I hate modern appliances.

I subscribe to the old adage If you want something done right you do it yourself...lol.  Besides, i actually like doing this kind of stuff, but my back tells me different.

It was more than just the walkway/deck as well.  I put in some drainage earlier this year and used the old 3/4 gravel from the driveway for the drainage ditch, so had to scrape it all off the driveway first.  Then I spread 4 inches of new 1/4 minus gravel on the entire driveway (about 32 yards).  Then had to rip apart my old paver walkway and the landscaping ties that were used as edging before.  Also, that curbing/edging stone all had to be cut to fit the space.  They come in bricks of 8x4x12" and i had to cut each one in half, then the curved pieces all had to be cut to fit as well.  I cut it all using a circular saw with a masonary blade.  It was a big time consuming job!

We are happy with the end result.  I was going to go composite on the decking but it's 10 times the price and not even sure if we even like it that much.

We have a local guy that grabs all the steel stuff you leave at the road.

Maybe check Kijiji for a scrap steel recycler?

Cool tent!!  Where are you planning on going?

That tent is bigger than my pop-up!!!

So far we have weekend trips booked to Jellystone Park in Woodstock, Bar Harbor, Maine, Baxter State Park, Maine, and Oak Bay in St. Stephen.  Definitely want to do more as well.

There is a nice campground on Miscou Island next to where I stayed.   https://campinglavague.ca/en-ca/  It's right on Baie des Chaleurs.
If you only need a place to pop up a tent for a few days, you can PM me and you could stay on my brother's property, beautiful private beachfront with electricity and water. (oh, and billions of mosquitos)

vague is a great name for a campground.

"where did you stay"
"someplace vague"
"could you be more specific?"
"no, it was someplace vague"

More work on the BIL's addition.  I took the day off so I could help erect trusses.  He wasn't actually ready.  Our first task was to demo part of the roof over the existing house, as we were cutting existing trusses and supporting them with a girder and beam.  So we had to remove shingles, sheathing, and insulation in order to get this done.  Then we moved on to the actual modification of the trusses followed by placing the new girder.

I also got to frame up a portion of the roof over the new part of the addition.  Far from complete, but it is some progress.

I was back at work, but they got the rest of the trusses on.  Not sheathed or anything.  I told my BIL to buy a big tarp and put it over the hole in the existing house if it does threaten to rain.

Today I put in place the final domino that started to fall when I bought my new car:

New car  ->  new Thule hitch  ->  new Thule bike rack for new Thule hitch  ->  new Thule bike stacker for home to make room for the racks when not in use.  Crazy.

Here is the bike stacker, all nice and purdy like.  You can see both racks at bottom and right:

I plan to sell the old bike rack soon via Kijiji.  Unless, of course, one  of you fine folk would like a 3 bike Sport Rack brand rack?  ;-)

That looks nice. I just put in a mount on my garage wall for my bike.
I'm interested in the bike rack. You can PM me with your price. I can meet in the GTA.

Nice. I think GT is a sweet spot for beginner bikes. Too bad I cheaped out on mine.
Just wondering about the writing on the box...
What happens if the box falls over? I wonder if they actually keep these upright throughout its transport.

I assume the bike components might scratch each other or maybe don't want someone placing a heavy box on top of it if it's on its side.

Sent from my BLA-L29 using Tapatalk

The Bottom Bracket Spindles (the part that the crank arms fit onto) is the widest part of the bike (with the handlebars turned sideways).  The width of the box is thus determined, meaning that if you lay the boxes flat on a pallet with other bikes on top, you risk that bottom bracket spindle punches through the box and damages something (like the frame) on the other bike.  Also, you'd be putting abnormal amounts of load on the wheels which would now be laying flat with the bike underneath them.

I've unpackaged, built and tuned hundreds of bikes.  Have Fun!

FINALLY picked up a Stihl chain sharpener that actually sharpens.  Up to this point in time I've just dropped off 3 chains at a time, but these days it's about $35.00 tax in and I generally forget to pick them up.  I just used one of these "2 in 1" units and even though it's not machine quality it's close enough.  Paid $45 plus tax at a local Stihl dealer.  Bargain.

I've never had luck with chain sharpeners.  Let me know how this one works.
