I am far from a tech wizard. I have been trying to copy some photos onto a DVD-R and then play them in my DVD player. I have not had much success.

What: About 1.2 GB of photos
As: JPG files
Where: Onto a DVD-R (This process seems to work as the disc can be read in any computer)

I have tried a couple of DVD players. They both have JPEG and DVD-R on the front.
Both machines try to load for several minutes and then come back with: unable to read/format not recognized

Any tips?

Thanks.

We burn our photos onto a CD using the software that came with the computer, in my case NTI CD and DVD Maker.  I use the create CD slide show option and have no issues on any DVD player so far.  Its a great way to send photos of the kids to the grandparents.

I have had no luck using the DVD part though, the software does not seem to have the same option for DVD's.

And I have had issues with other peoples CD's with just jpg files on them, they will not play in our DVD player, only the computer.

So can you create a slide show with your software, maybe that would work like it does for me?

You will need Photo CD or Photo DVD Maker software. Most DVD players cannot read the filing system on a regular CD-R/DVD-R.

Use a VCD Creator (most bundle software have that), create a VCD disk, and display jpeg slide shows works as well.

Buy a $20 DVD player that has a USB port. Or better yet, stream via X360/PS3  :P

Ha. I think I recall seeing that on the fornt of one of those. Failing that I will try the slideshow method with the Roxio.

Does your DVD player read DVD-R discs?   Did you close the session on the DVD?

When you read the DVD on your PC, are the files saved as JPEG or something else?  Just wondering if the burner is changing formats on you...

Depending what you selected when you were burning the files onto the cd, you would normally have to select "open session" where you can add to the cd later - (but cannot play it on other machines) or closed session where you cannot add later but it is compatble with all other machines. To close, put your dvd in the computer you used to burn, open up your software and find where you can "close" the session.

All I did was copy and paste using Vista.

Faint recollection.    Copy and paste will produce  a CD/DVD that is only readable as a Windows file system disk.  You have to write the disk as a photo-cd or something like that ( I am not familiar with Vista) and you will need to close the session, maybe even write the disk as a single session and "finalize" the disk

You can still get 35mm slide film from Fujifilm and Kodak.

I am officially a dvd burning idiot. The option to create a slide show DVD was right in front of me. Actually works good and is almost idiot proof.
