FOR  Attractive looks and plenty of space inside. Lots of kit for the cash and plenty of personalisation options

AGAINST  Let down by a rubbish ride. Interior plastics could be a bit better, too

Thats a shame. I really like this Kia. That would put me right off.  :-\

But it shouldn't ride like a 70's Mini either.

I agree. Just like how a Challenger R/T with the nice 18" wheels would be a great cruiser. I would test drive the model with the 18" to see how it rode.

The $19995 model is optioned pretty much ideally for me though. I didn't get to sit in one at the Car Show but I like what I saw.

The Nissan rep let me sit in the Cube and I was impressed with it also.

Should be an interesting segment. Small footprint with large interior volume. Perfect for someone like me who hauls around large cases full of light goods. :)

The Kia dealer's only a couple of minutes drive from home so I went down today to have a quick look at the Soul. They had just one, a $19,995 2u model in a very funky-looking goldish-avocado color. I was impressed with how imposing this car is, not what I'd describe as small by any means. It's different and it's a lot cooler-looking than anything else in this price range that I've ever seen. I'm definitely going back for a test drive.

British reviews always seem to be quite critical about Korean cars, honestly I would not let that deter me and try one.

I don't find that. It just the more blunt with the language they used and some times seam more honest IMO.  :)

To sum up every review of any non-Euro car by a Brit magazine:

"If it's not European, it's crap."

There's always something: the ride's to soft/hard, the engine is too weak/not fuel efficient, the styling is too boring/ugly etc, etc ad nauseum.

I remember a long term review of the old Peugeot 206 by CAR. They fawned all over it, and completely glossed over the abhorrent reliability (electrics, broken bits in the interior, rust etc). In either that issue or a subsequent one, the tore a Honda (Civic? can't remember) to bits for being boring, dull, suitable only for geriatrics etc, yet it was quicker, and hugely more reliable than the Pug. Lots of other examples over the years, but that one stood out.
On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

This is why reviews are somewhat limited in their total usefulness. They are good to read as a start but when it comes down to it...some reliability data + your own test driving is key.

I think it may be that Kia has hit the mark here with the Soul...in delivering that funky, urban, "active lifestyle" sort of thing that a number of companies have tried.

Great commercial.

Had a look at a 2U and a 4U sitting in the lot yesterday, and the 18" wheels really upgrade the vehicle's looks. Has to be another car where the stylist did his work with big wheels in place.

I actually saw one today in midtown. It looked great, had the 18' and all that. They really do transform the look of the car - it being so tall and all -. I wouldn't get it in a generic silver though, maybe something more funky.

Didn't the Venza get lambasted for having overly large wheels .I wonder what tires will cost for this economy car. I have 17's on the miata not fussy about them ,but that is what the car came with. I much prefer the 16 inch size  of the base model[MX5.]I guess it's nice to have choice.
