Thanks Saf.

The van was at the lowest point of the drainage ditch in the median. The truck and trailer slid across the edges of the ditch. It had just enough clearance to go over the top without hitting the van. A shorter trailer likely wouldn't have cleared us.

Damn, BT,  that's one hell of an adventure!  Glad everyone came out of it OK.

I had to re-read the bit about the truck going over you to make sure I read that correctly. :o :o

Generally, he doesn't go out if the weather is bad. We just got caught out this time.

I see.....but for whatever reason, there always seems to be a "next time".  And for the minimal hassle of winters..and the little effort it takes to get them on, it's just too big a risk NOT to have them....

It's impossible to reason with elderly folks who are set in their ways.  However... this event may scare some sense into Dad, even though winter rubber may not have made a difference in the outcome.

But we'll never know.  Certainly the all season rubber didn't HELP the situation.  Winter rubber is dramatically better on ice than even the best all seasons though....

Did not BT's dad usually head south for the winter, so maybe that why he does not need winter tires

Perhaps a set of the all weather Nokians?  They would be suitably quiet for the months spent down south yet would offer better traction for the crappy weather encountered to and from the vacation destination.

I am glad to hear you are ok. I think you have just looked straight into the eyes of death and amazingly lived to tell the story.

Uh oh.   Wasn't there a fairly recent movie about some kids who escaped a car crash and then were individually pursued by Death until it got them all?   Don't remember the title... but I think it was a series. ( IIRC it was a very bad movie)

:o That's incredible.  Glad you're alright.  I've had a couple moments of "Holy :censor:", but nothing that comes close to that.
