TOMTOM go 630 VS go 730. What's the difference??
« on: November 21, 2008, 10:00:01 pm »
the 730 is a $100 off in Futureshop at $350 and the new 630 goes for $299. I'm thinking to replace my Garmin nuvi 750, which doesnt have bluetooth and doesnt see highway lanes.
I've tried tomtom.com (US) but I cant find any obvious difference between the 630 and 730 models. Please HELP!  :)
Give a man a fish, he eats for a day. Teach the man to fish and he wakes you up at 5 in the morning.

Costco sells Nuvi 760 for $329 IIRC and it has BT. I don't know it this helps, but I just looked at it two days ago and I thought it might be a good choice.

It's a very good price, but I'm not a member (Sam's) and on paper TomTom seems a little more advanced, like the owners can update points of interest, it uses historical traffic data to calculate the routs, seleb voices just to name a few. I want to get Sean Connery narration, "you schmuck"  :rofl2:

What do you mean by "doesn't see highway lanes"
On the 250, hiways are in a different colour

When I turn from 401 collector to Express it doesnt always see where I am and once or twice I missed my exits. Tom has a lane by lane Nav an [supposedly] can see the highway lanes. It may come useful when going to pierson airport.  ;)

If I zoom in on the 250 I can see both collector and express
It usually zooms in when I get close to the exit and then zooms back out

Even when I go along the Express it says "continue on 401 collectors east..." which is annoying. Have they passed that thing banning cell phone use while driving yet?

The Garmin 7x0 range doesn't do Lane Assist.

The newer version of these 7x5 series does that. e.g. 755T, 765T.

I haven't encountered or missed an exit at airport or any other place due to the lack of Lane Assist. The prompts do tell you to keep right or left long before the exit and continously reminds you of that.

update. I put the two boxes side by side and they are almost identical. 630 seems to be missing FM transmission, so I'm gonna read up on that now and see if I can live without it.
