2010 Mustang
« on: November 18, 2008, 10:20:52 am »
Mid-life-cycle facelift, and it's a good one.  Aesthetics have been tweaked all over with a major overall improvement.  The interior is all new, with far better materials (soft-touch plastics and real aluminum).  The GT model gets 15 more horsepower.  The V6 is unchanged for now, though apparently a smaller-displacement ecoboost (turbocharged) base engine is on the way in a year or so.

It's still got a live rear axle and it's still down significantly on power compared to the Camaro, but on the other hand, it should weigh 400-500 lbs less than the Camaro.

Cool!  I can't wait to start seeing the comparison tests between the 'modern muscle cars' as they all hit the market.  It'd be neat to see them throw in the Genesis Coupe for kicks too -- see how it shapes up against the big dogs.

Rather good design (in/out) tweaks. The powertrain doesn't seem to be too appealing, on the paper at least.

I like it. Hope they don't take too long to release the new EcoBoost engines. I just don't understand why the V6 gets the projector headlights and the GT gets the old headlight type.

Just from the autoblog pix, I'd have to say the "tweaks" are for the good. I will have to see it live for a better comment, but as a previous owner of an '07 GT/CS, I think this update has gone in the right direction. Subtle changes without changing the successful design of the past model, which did sell very well.

It appears the interior and dash area is much improved, and that is one area that needed work. Previously a lot of hard plastic and sharp lines; the new one seems to be "softened" a bit and looks better for it. The seats were not overly appealling in mine, and it looks like they are about the same in the new one. Mustang seats are not the most supportive, and I think Ford could do better in that area.

Overall, a good redesign. We'll see how it sells now in the age of Camaro/Challenger competition, and higher gas prices (coming back at some future date). Good work, Ford.

I like the sleeker design, inside and out. I still don't like the gauges though, with the old school font.

Agree with the above comments.

Nice updates, especially in the interior.  I know my car feels a bit like hard plastic coffin at times.  But you get you pay for I suppose.

I think if I were in the market again, I'd be leaning towards a Genesis Coupe over one of the muscle cars...but I guess I've just had my 'fix' of domestic glory. :P

Out of the muscle cars, I probably like the Camaro most...but maybe that's just a result of Vman's endless Chevy love rubbing off on me.

I like that front end, it reminds me of the circa 68 or so.

There's something about the current model, the slope of the headlights looks 'sad' somehow.

I think it looks great!  I had a look for the genesis coupe the other night after you mentioned it, and much as I think the concept pictures are gorgeous, the production model didn't really wow me.

I think the new mustang looks great compared to the Camaro, I really can't like the Camaro interior and dash, those retro dials are just way OTT for my liking.  An R/T Challenger though.... hhmmmmm

I tend to agree with your comment, but the gauges are meant to be that way, to fit into the nostalgia theme of the '68.

After this update, it doesn't match the rest of the car, IMO.

As far as the exterior goes I would call it a downgrade. It now looks more Asian with slanted lights and cheaper with those black plastic skirts around. I dont find it looking more "aggressive" as they claim in the video.
The interior looks better, not sure about the central console not being horizontal as it may not be as comfortable as an armrest.
Good to hear they,ve made so many improvements in the power and handling.
I still like it more in this exact colour and shape:

Starting to look like a older model of the Datsun 260Z to me with the swoop look on the sides and the overall shape of it. Of course they are trying to stick with the Nostalgsha look as much as possible but have to add some newness to it as well.  :)
