Expressview 9242 recieved
« on: November 12, 2008, 09:16:30 pm »
 Been with Bell for years
Phone them up and said I was going to switch to cable, and got to talk with customer retention
They agreed to reduced my rate by 30% and got a PVR free for a year
So they change my dish out and got the PVR
The PVR has a duel mode were can hook up another tv to the receiver
In the manual it said to hook up the TV with coaxial cable but on the back of the receiver under the TV2 it only has 3 RCA plugs, white, red and Yellow.
Phoned Expressiew and they said I can only used the 3 wired cable, I would like hook up another tv that need a cable that 25 feet away. I have never since a 3 wired cable with rca plugs that long
Any ideas?
Now having a HD received , I get to look for new TV ;D
Plamas, LCD, DLP with LEDS  ???

Hook the closer TV into the RCA composite, and run your 25' coax to the far TV.

What's the point of a digital receiver if you're going to be using coax though??

Have a VCR lying around? Use that to hook up the old TV.

Not sure what you are asking as all cable comes into the house via coax. Even HD signals are sent over coax. You need the digital receiver to decode all the digitial channels, otherwise you are limited to the basic channels under xx numbers.

* I don't know how high the numbers go but usually under 100 and you won't get any special channels, not that most of them are any good.

AirB....there are lots of places that sell long runs of cable. Check out this place in Markham.

I am surprised that an uptodate digital stb would even bother with coax out. That box has component, S-Video, 2 Composite and 1 HDMI as well as optical connection for  Dolby out to an amplifier.   I wonder what the ethernet is for?

Quad.   Surely the incoming signal from the Satellite although it is "over coax"  needs processing to get to the old "cable channel"  rf frequencies.  Is that what the extra coax on that box does, the one to the left of the main outputs in the separate box and legend ( too small to read)

Ethernet and USB -- I suspect that box is capable of being a media centre and you can copy files to and from it but Bell has blocked it.

EDIT: That's the upgradable box right?  The USB can be used for more external drives.

On my Rogers box (SA8300) the coax out sends just the regular (*) signal through to which I use for a old small tv in the bedroom.

* I can't test if it does or doesn't filter the extra channels as my old tv in the bedroom is just that, very old.

Still, since I can't read all the text on that box, I'm shocked that it doesn't do the same thing.

But thats Rogers CABLE where the original 41Mhz to 78Mhz channels 2-6 and a whole pile of UHF channels (14-80 or so) are still there in analogue mode in most areas ( for a couple more years)   The Bell Expressvue that AirB does not have an analogue mode natively, it has to do it in the box... IF it does at all and that is the question.  If it does then he can possibly  extend with coax from that unknown coax and use composite to get to the main TV.   Else its off to best Buy for him

It is good  that they'd use USB for external drives. The Rogers Scientific Atlanta boxes ( 8300 and 8300HD) use SATA II for that. SATA II external enclosures are a bit more difficult to find on shelves.

FWIW if Bill C61 is passed, the use of large drives on PVRS may become defacto illegal as you'd be deemed to be keeping a "collection" or "archive" of copyrighted material

which would mean a move backwards in terms of technology advancements.

I live by my PVR -- I never watch shows when they are "live" anymore.
