He was a member of the Hasty Pees regiment, then became an intelligence officer.  He helped negotiate the air drop of food and humanitarian supplies in Nazi-occupied Holland.

I had the pleasure of meeting him here at a Book signing about 10 years ago now and have his then new book called "Home on the Farm" I believe it was called. He hand signed it for me with his usual wit and humour. Its upstairs in the book case somewhere as I read it then but not since.  :)

Likely, but nothing like the crazy shat they filmed in the movie version.
Brain Dellaney climbing out of the pilots seat to whack something out on the wing with an adjustable wrench for one. ::) Vent tube for the left wing frozen up starving the engine for fuel? Did he have both tanks (left and right)selected? Phhhffff...
