Without the continuation of sub prime financing this car will remain a 2nd tier seller.

Why, because the sheep will continue to say the Camry and Accord are better...which will mean their resale values are higher?

I like the car...but don't like the autobox...ya, I know I don't matter 'cause everyone wants auto.

Camry and Accord resale values have been significantly higher due in part because their financing rate hasn't undermined their used value.

Now it appears that Ford Canada has done a complete reversal.  Gone from 0% to 8% across the board on Fusion .  However, they are offering big discounts for cash buyers.  Problem is not many cash buyers.

Currently in Canada Ford is not offering a lease for Fusion.  That's gotta change if the 2010 model  is to succeed.

Also Fords Mexico plant Hermosillo has a maximum annual capacity of 300,000 units split between the 3 variants -Ford Fusion,Mercury Milan & Lincoln MK Z.
Ford seems to be on the right track with trying to match production with demand, and when they get that sorted out, then I think this will help in some ways to off set the depreciation factor. Instead of having a 100+ day supply get it down to 40-50 day supply, will keep the panic away from deep discounting and 0% financing.

Ford's first problem is pretty much what all the domestics face and that is pulling away from employee pricing and sub prime financing and this is the worst time to try that.  Eventually, Ford needs to post a profit on a continuous basis.  If they can do that by giving away their vehicles and underwriting part of the finance rate then they are truly champs.

The next problem when, not if, Ford applies for US and Canadian loans, how much will come from the Mexican government.  I'm thinking ZERO.  So me thinks the Fusion will have a problem with branding if Americans and Canadians get tribal which often happens when ppl become poorer.

I have this recurrent nightmare where it's announced that the Camry is now made in Mexico.  :)

3 years ago when I first starting posting on this forum that GM was heading to insolvency the troll signs abound.  You seem to be a frequent user.  :)

Exactly, as was pointed out earlier in total sales.

It looks like what is happening is the traditional domestic 0% buyers are switching in increasing numbers to Hyundai/Kia. With the weakening of the Won combined with the strength of their new products, the Koreans have a golden opportunity to pick the carcass of the domestics.

While people with money move ever more to Toyota and Honda.

That being said, out in the Prairies pickup sales are so dominant these issues have to be masked. The Ford dealers lots are 90% filled with trucks. What the Fusion does or doesn't do can't be much of an issue to them.

Gawd, that massive chrome grille is horrendous.

I agree, the first thing I would do if I bought this car is to get the Grill Painted Black.

I'm not sure really.  It should be a good car tho. The Fusion has been great for Ford in turning the brand around. :-\

That looks pretty much like the new C Class.

Roughly similar wheels also.

Holy moly I could shave with that front end!!!

FORD CANADA:

In a bid to continue to spread out thin marketing dollars, and following the success of the F150 / Harley Davidson Edition, the marketers at Ford Canada believe they have struck GOLD with their latest tie-up:

The 2010 Fusion Gilette and 2010 Fusion Lady Schick editions.

If a person needs a sedan now and that person intends to keep the car, then I believe he should look no further than a 09 Fusion. Man, $18985 for an I4 SEL (manual) with automatic climate control, ESC, an array of air bags, sporty handling plus outstanding reliability... it's a hard to beat deal. For this kind of money you can't even buy a Honda Fit Sport.

But hey, 2010 Fusion comes with a 6-sp stick..hehehe. Gosh, if the V6 sport AWD can be ordered with a stick it would become a very credible poor man's A4.
