Do insurance companies get Collision Reporting Centre Reports?
« on: October 29, 2008, 01:37:56 pm »
A friend was sliding on some ice today and a second car hit her in the side of her car and took off. She did not get any license plates. She reported the damage to the collision reporting centre. Will her insurance company know about it? She is not sure if she is going to fix the damage at all.

Unless its someone elses fault and you can prove it (independent witness) steer clear of those places.  :P

Why? what if you decide a few days later that you want to make an insurance claim because you went and got an estimate and it is going to cost $3000. Won't the insurance company say "did you report it?"

Firstly, you've got to be a complete idiot, in Ontario at least, to report a $3000. at fault claim.  One's rates will increase, over a 6 year period, and cost twice that amount.  If your unlucky enough to have another claim, no matter how small, within that period; say you slide into someones ass end and cause superficial damage, but the damaged party insists on reporting it, you will very likely end up in the Insurance Facility where rates start about 10K per year.

Secondly, you say you didn't realize the extent of the damage.  Superficial damage these days is 3K.
