[flame suit on]
I have a suspicion that apart  from Vancouver, TO and Montreal that the whole country is a bit dull ... but TO for sure is less dull that it was in the 70's
/flame suit on

I suspect that Guelph fits your definition of Fredericton except that as it happens all my particular services from your list are  a 5-10 minute drive but thats because of where they are. I could probably have found them a bit closer to home. I could certainly bike to them all within 15 minutes.

I don't think it would matter who was in power in Totonto as since when is any of them better then the others at any level of Gov. We pay higher tax's here in London per capita then almost any other city in North America and they still just keep wasting more and more as we go deeper in debt. Stuck us for 42.5 million on a single arena downtown with virtually no parking and hire a mangement company to run it. The tax's are higher then what we get from the rent from these crooks for a year. This building is always got something happening in it as it seats near 10,000 folks. Constantly has major concerts and makes a lot of money but not for us at all.  Thats only one of the many white elephants they have built in the past 20 years or so. >:(

Police should be a Fed or provincial cost not a city since most of laws are not municipals
It is funny, probably most things people complaint about are municipal, but come election time not one cares

All those empty buses zooming around North York and Scarborough.   But thats why the tax rates have to rise whether the people like it or not.

The north york subway is empty whenever I've ridden it (not much), although the buses look packed to me at least during the commutes.

Regardless, I don't think public transit is the budget breaker.

We need a corporate slash-and-burn specialist to come in and fire half of all city employees and close a bunch of departments.
Need the same thing at Queens Park.   Just look up the sunshine list to see the names of thousands of ontario civil servants who were paid >$100,000 last year and how much they made.

Yep.  So should the Gardiner Expressway and DVP/404, since many of the drivers are commuters who work in toronto but live outside.

I fly into and out of the Big Smoke on a regular basis.

And you don't call a CTC get-together via me, Southern Ontario Mission Control?   :nono:   ;D

I get on the subway at summerhill and often find that I have to wait for 3 or 4 subways before there's room for me to squeeze on...I love the TTC (and why am I paying the same price for my trip as those who get on at finch, makes no sense!)

it's way easier to have 1 standard fare than 3000 different ones dependent on where you get on and off the subway.. plus if the TTC will ever do that, tokens/tickets would not do the trick..

The London Underground has\had a system like that..

When the TTC finally agrees to the regional smartcard system then it will not be any problem charging by distance.

Just flip the card at the reader start and end of journey and let the computers work it out.  Do it as a flat fare per km ( MUCH LOWER than a standard TTC ride now to allow for the people taking short rides.)

People will complain, especially those taking long rides.   But if the system is to improve then somebody has to pay for it.

The bus's cannot be full all the time but its probably a standard thing at rush hours of course. There is still a need for other times of the day and some folks do need the service.  :)

My license renewal didn't show the tax, but the automated machined at which I tried to renew yesterday added an extra $120 for it.  Phookers.

I renewed for two years last year. I guess they'll charge me for both years that time.

Good question!  So next year if you renew for one year, will you get hit for two years tax?.  I'm in that same situation as you with another vehicle.  Anyone know the answer?

Wonder what happens if you pay the toronto vehicle tax for two years ($120/vehicle), but then turn-in the license early.  The province refunds an unused portion of the licensing fee, but will that Toronto Vehicle tax also be proportionately refunded?

If you move out of toronto in a year, will you get $60 of the tax refunded for the second year?

From Toronto city's website.

13. My licence plate needs to be renewed in July. When will I have to pay the PVT if it is effective as of September 1, 2008?
You will not be responsible for the PVT for your July 2008 licence plate renewal since the renewal date is before the effective date. You will begin to be charged the PVT the next time you renew your licence plate.

Looks like anybody whose renewal was before September 01, 2008 doesn't have to pay for year 2008. Vehicle permit is an advance fee for the next year's usage.
