LF: TV Stand / Credenza / something
« on: October 28, 2008, 09:20:25 pm »
So I'm looking to replace my not so proper crap fit TV stand.

I have a 50" plasma to put "on" "in" whatever the thing is.  I have thought about wall mounting it but hiding the cables sounds like a pain in the you know what but I may still go that route.  Even if I do mount it I will still need some type of "base" for the stereo etc.

My speakers are "cherry veneer" and the rest of the woods in my living room are antiqued pine so I'm looking to kind of match.  From what I have heard from ppl before, wood goes with wood so it doesn't matter too much I guess but I want something similar.

So far only thing I found I like is this:
http://s7d3.scene7.com/s7ondemand/zoom/flasht_zoom.jsp?company=TheBrick&sku=eht4bm_l&zoomwidth=700&zoomheight=700&vc=skin=http://s7d3.scene7.com/skins/TheBrick/SWFs/zoomViewer760w_en.swf

But it's $3000 ... ummm yeah anything under $500 would be much nicer on the pocket book.

I'm open to traditional to modern to contemporary basically anything if I like it.  Any ideas where I could find something?  Costco seems to have the best things I have seen so far but still not that enamored by them.

I'm in the same boat and it been tough. The ones I really like are over $2K  :-[

Try these sites:

http://www.bdiusa.com/products.shtml
http://www.omnimount.com/consumer/Default.aspx
http://www.sanus.com/ca/en/

Also, check out this thread to see what other people have bought.

One of my issues (and probably yours) is finding one that will fit me center channel (7-1/4" x 22" x 10-7/16").

Do you know any good woodworkers as you can probably have something made a lot cheaper and more to your tastes as well as your pocketbook also.  I had my older TV stand reworked by a carpenter years ago when I bought my 39" HD tube TV. Its a really heavy set but does look good now with the rework which was stained to match. :)

My guess is a lot

Finding Canadian prices has been hard.  Lucky a store in TO has their prices on their site.

Found a similar model (then stopped looking) around $2200.

Nothing at Ikea tickle your fancy?

Wood goes with wood, but black goes with anything.  Further to Barrie's suggestion, perhaps you could have one made by a cabinet maker to your specifications painted in sleek black?

 :iagree:

I searched high and low when I first got my TV, and I found this console:  http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/20102516

I like it because it's got the proper height for eye-level viewing.

My TV is a Sharp Aquos 37", though (bit smaller than yours).   But there are many other consoles to choose from.

I don't think my stereo equipment will fit on any of those shelves and I know James' receiver is even bigger than mine.

Not touching that one.   :-X  ;D

Like I said, this Ikea unit fit my needs perfectly, but there are many others to choose from.  All are reasonably-priced and quite functional.  In my search, I ran the gamut from $1000+ at Structube and Mobilia to the $200 junk at Wal-Mart.  I found this one on a final effort to see what Ikea had, strictly out of curiosity.

I prefer wall mount but running and hiding AC supply is murder.   This one is weird, but holds a 60

Hard to beat that price

We have one similar in style to the one AS posted.  It works well, very practical, not totally taken with the style itself, though.  But if you were thinking of wall mounting, it's probably the closest you'll find without a minor renovation project.  :)

Brig, that is one I was looking at.  They use to offer it in antique stain but seem to no longer :(.  Maybe some old stock is still lieing around someplace.

The Costco one I was looking at was this:

Just I assume it will look like fake wood and cheap....

This one is totally the wrong colour (too bright) but it has a nice speaker or nick knack shelf

Oh looks like they have a dark brown too...

I also like the last one the most. I don't like the ones that have the large backing on them....why not just hang it on the wall at that point?

How much and what model is it?

Yeah I don't like the backing ones much either.

It's $379 at costco.
