The front yard patio begins.
« on: October 23, 2008, 08:55:48 pm »
The work began this week. The stone is from India and shipped all the way to Ontario for a 1/3 of the cost of Owen Sound Square cut. ::)
The mason will be laying the India stone on top of the concrete entrance, making the stairs out of brick then topped with the same stone and of course laying the India stone on top of the new concrete pad.

Yeah, yeah...
This stone is hard as a well...rock too. Some kind of quartzite sandstone. I think the mason is not too fond of it as he will go through 'some' blades cutting it. He tried to talk me into the Owen Sound stone as it's softer. I said not at 3x the price thanks very much.

Don't know. I didn't price it as I was after the real stone look.

There's a place nearby that has stamped concrete. It's coloured.  Even the "grout" has a different colour.  I didn't know it was stamped until the owner told me.  Looks pretty damn convincing...

You know that is interesting because 10 years ago, when there was really no demand, one could buy the surplus Square Cut seconds (about 2 inches thick) at Owen Sound LedgeRock (north of Owen Sound, south of Wiarton) for 10 bucks a ton.  How things have changed.

Looks good!

Choosing a car based on reliability is like choosing a wife based solely because she is punctual. There is more to it than that...

Looks beautiful, Railton.  Cutting stone like that is sure to become a lost art.   :'(

OK, so it's basically done now. The Mason has to come back to clean off the fine grout residue and to pick up the remaining $ owing but I must say that I am pretty happy with the way it turned out. I thought I had spoke to him about making the treads wider than what he ended up doing but it's small stuff I guess. To walk on it is the best part - it feels like stone with that 'gritty' kind of feel when you walk on it and it's very impressive looking to in real life. The pictures don't do it justice.
