I signed on to the national do not call list at the CRTC web site and two weeks later my cell phone gets a telephone call from a tele marketing agency whose call display phone number came from Illinois! I have never gotten a marketing call on my cell phone ever before. There is something very suspicious about that. I regret signing on.

Furthermore, my home phone is getting more marketing calls then ever lately..Yes, I know, it doesn't kick into effect until Nov.1.

I signed up some weeks ago and have not had but one call since, and it was a charity (allegedly). I suspect your experience is just a coincidence and cannot be blamed on the registry. It takes at least 30 days to be effective after you sign up.

I dont think it is a coincidence. What you have to do is use your brain and not just believe everything you have heard about the do not call list.

Telemarketers are going to be based in other countries...many already are an our countries do not call list will not apply to them. So they have found a loop hole in other words.

From what I undestand, businesses that you already do business with are exempt - and most of the calls I get are from our banks and/or credit card companies....so there won't be much difference anyway.  Sometimes I just hand the phone to my daughter, and let her talk to the poor sap.

I think "the catch" in all this is that it is a "national" do not call list. This list does not apply to telemarketers based in other countries...many Canadian companies already use international telemarketing firms. They are cheaper to use and pluse they are exempt.

USA citiziens for example already have their own do not call registry.

Next thing to do is that I am going to post this topic on another forum..no one here is intelligent enough to have a good discussion.

1.  What number did you sign up the national do not call list with?  Your cell number?  You don't actually say.
If so,
2.  Why did you sign up your cell number if you've never gotten a marketing call on it?

3.  Was the call you got on your cell number specifically for you, ie, from your bank or something, or was it a random/general marketing 'cold' call?

Is he trying to say that the no call registry sold his number to a US marketing firm?

I think that's what he is implying.  The fun part will be proving it.  Telemarketers would have access to the list.  It is probably possible to get the numbers on that national list and sell it to an offshore company.
