80% off is awesome!

So today the other half wanted to go to Michaels to check out some 50% off art -- yeah not the greatest art, nothing really appealing at all.  But while we were there they had 80% off flowers.  You know the fake kind in a vase ... well a bunch of different settings and bouquets.   80% off!

Last time we saw a sale like this was last spring I believe, 90% off but the selection was minimal -- this time it was pretty good.
 
We bought 8 items and "saved" $600!  The biggest item pictured below was regular price $289 -- so cost us around $60.

We then looked around the store, they were selling some of the vases regular price $29.99 the same vase with the flowers after discount was $12!  Great deals all around -- I love a great deal :).

Not wishing to dis your pleasure at a "bargain", but items you buy at Michaels to hang on your wall may be decorations; but they are never "art", not even poor art................. ;) :)

With the price of Chinese-made stuff today, and the so-called retail or sticker price, it is really hard to tell what something is really worth. 80% off may well be the "fair price". OTOH stuff is "worth" what someone else is willing to pay for it.

We didn't buy art -- read again it was all crap.  Bought plants instead -- these aren't made in china ... well I'm sure the material is but the arrangements are made in store usually in a class or just by the floral arranger they have on staff.

They are pretty nice -- I would never pay the list price.  Just some small ones we got were listed for $89.99 regular price, so it was like $20 -- you wouldn't find it for $20 anywhere typically.

Real plants don't last in my house, we either don't water them or the cats eat them so fakies it is.  I'm not one to buy expensive items to stick on walls either

WE have a house on Commisioners Rd here in London which every year after the 1st good dump of snow has all these flowers peaking thru still looking like new. Very cheap but good imatations made of plastic. We all get a good laugh about that.  :)

Isn't that the "picture" that the National Gallery paid about $20million for??

I do not appreciate "modern" art, I guess. Show me a Group of Seven painting and I can see the value, modern art just doesn't do it for me.

Bob, I can paint it for $300 + material, much less than the $1.76M purchase price in 1989. A lot negative publicity at the time about the acquisition of it with tax payer's money. Think it is called Voice of Fire, kinda look like a giant flag, IMO.

Initial, art is about the idea and the execution, not just the execution.  Lots of people can paint.

I have strong opinions about art, and fake plants, and will keep them to myself.   ;D

I saw "Voice of Fire" the year it was acquired by the National Gallery.  While abstracts aren't my cup of tea, it is a very impressive and imposing piece in person.
